Seriously considering selling Marlin 1894P-what is it worth?

Not for sure yet but very likely. Checking out my options;why i didn't post in private firearm sales forum yet. Original owner. Bought at Orange County, Costa Mesa Big five in 2000 new. Marlin, model 1894P (ported) with 16 inch barrel. Caliber is 44 mag/spl. Serial number aprox 00047850. Less than 200 rounds through it and I'd say 98% like new; only a couple of very minor dings on the stock from bumping up against other guns.

What is it worth. I can't find anything on the net or calguns that is up to date with out my head spinning from the search; maybe I'm just dumb. Price range varies by hundreds. Are these are somewhat sought after?

Thanks in advance for the input.

I would figure around $600 ($500-$700 is what I saw when looking at them through FFLs a fe months back). I have seen them for less, and a few (supposedly mint) for a bit more more. It is a pre-Remington product so that adds value. I certainly wouldn't take less than $500 unless it had some serious issues, and I would probably aim for the $600 if I were the seller. Though you might get more. They are not made anymore, but similar guns are.

Not bad as I paid $420 out the door in 2000. A little better than I was expecting after my searches. Short of any other posts to the contrary, I'd say $500 to $700 sounds like a good assessment to me.

I'll see what the local shops offer me for it here in central orange county. I may wind up posting it in the private firearms sales forum in the very near future so if anyone is interested keep an eye out there or you can always send me a pm.

Thanks JoshuaS and everyone that viewed this post.

I'll bet $200-300 he'll want all the markup he can get. Cut out the middleman and sell it yourself. It's easy on CalGuns.

I really only have one place I'm considering selling it to off the top of my head and will likely be checking with them this weekend to see what they offer. They gave me a decent price on another gun (downsizing & need the cash) and it was worth a small ding for the convenience. This will be only the second time I've sold one of my guns and selling it to someone here at calguns is a real possibility if it is not too much of a hassle and someone really wants it.

                Absolutely right. 44 mag.

I can't believe I left that out of my original post. I'll edit that now. Oooops.

I'm gonna list it in private sales forum in the next few hours (May 1'st, 2013) along with a couple of other sites. Hopefully a fellow calgunner that really wants it will get it. If it doesn't move right away then this weekend I'll take it to the shop that gave me a fair price on one other gun a couple of weeks ago, sell it and be done with it. I really appreciate all the help assessing its value. Thanks.

I'd put $650.00 on it. The shop will take 20% for consignment fee.

Thanks man. That's what I was thinking too; $650 cash. Taking some pics now for post.

Not to hijack my own thread but, how does a private party transfer work? Its my understanding that gun stores have to accommodate ppt's. Seller and buyer meet at gun store parking lot or ffl, buyer inspects rifle and hands over cash to seller, both go inside, seller shows id, buyer goes back to gun store or ffl in ten days with all his documentation and whamo, it's done? Please tell me the seller does not have to wait 10 days, make another trip to gun store or ffl and then receive cash payment.

How does the buyer protect them self? Does the gun store or CA DOJ verify that it is not stolen which I'm totally fine with as I have original purchase receipt (which I am willing to show buyer) and state issued ID. I'm just looking for convenience and the closest thing to cash and carry for me....the seller. Any links on this would be cool. I'm jealous how easy a ppt is in some other states.

I guess I'll figure it out as I go.

                        Hi pinkmist.

Yeah meet at gun store, inspect & exchange funds (outside) go in, do paperwork, leave gun with them. Seller is done at this point, buyer returns 10 days later to pick up.

In terms of buyer protected vs. stolen firearm... not sure what would happen in that case. I suppose, since they take all the seller's info at the time of the DROS that there would be ramifications, but I don't know what. Fortunately that doesn't apply in this case.

                        Cheers!

                        (hope it falls to me...)

                          I have a the same thing in .357. Shorty/ported barrel (1894 CP).
My advice. Dont sell it. They only made those like one or two years or so.
I've gotten offers from $500 to $650. for mine. $700 after I let someone shoot it
