Where can I shoot my Wolf Performance Ammo in 7.62?

It seems like every range in Southern CA restricts the use of any steel jacket or bi metal jacket rounds, which the WPA is. Where can I shoot it at around here?

Try Raahauges in Corona, they have no steel core ammo restrictions, $30/2hrs but you can stay all day if no one is waiting. I usually go on the weekdays. Awesome place as they only have private ranges, no RO screaming or harassing you, its the best.

Forgot to add that the only downside is 100yards max.

We did some training with Stan (TASC: http://www.stcrispian.com/ ) a few times last year over at Prado. It was okay then to run steel stuff, though you'd wanna check directly to see if this remains the case in 2013. http://www.shootprado.com/index.php

Burro during winter months a couple years ago was okay, dunno if they are still doing a seasonal thing on steel or not (it was no-go during summer last I read). http://www.burrocanyon.com/index.shtml

hth, have fun and be safe

Out in the desert, BLM. Hodge Rd. is where i shoot. Off the 15 fwy, turn left, drive in about 2.5 to 3 miles well enough away from the cell tower that is right off the fwy (that's private property) past the semi truck container lot (which is also private property). Dont shoot across the roads and watch your backstop, pick up after yourself and then some when you leave, idiots leave all sorts of crap out there and eventually we wont be able to shoot there because of it. Nobody bothers you and it's nice and private.

In San Diego, Discount Gun Mart and P2K range allow for steel cased 7.62x39. This is actually the only ammo they allow you to shoot that is steel cased. It will fail the magnet test because of the case, but you will probably need to sacrifice 1 round so they can cut the bullet to be sure that it is not metal core.

I keep the cut round in my range bag and bring it with me to show them it is lead core so I don't have any more casualties.

If you go to BLM land with steel core/jacket ammo make sure you bring a fire extinguisher and water. The absolute last thing we need as a community is a large wildfire started by a shooter in the desert. Wildfires start quick and spread fast. I've seen them go up on solid copper rounds as well and we barely got it controlled in time.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

Not sure where you are located or how far you want to drive but the range here in 29 Palms has no ammo restrictions (construction or caliber).

Targets out to 1000yd line as well.

Not recommended for non-members to just show up though as there is no range officer to let you in.
