Another 14.5 midlength thread

I'm rockin a BCM 14.5 mid length with a larue tactical 12 inch rail, and you're run of the mill magpul furniture. (CTR stock, moe grip, afg, buis, cover panels), you get the idea. Running an aim point pro, spikes st-t2 buffer, carbine buffer spring, mega arms tactical trigger, and a young mfg chrome BCG.

THE REASON I gave you the entire rundown of my weapon system is because I'm particularly interested in the set ups of my fellow cal gunners. See here, my system runs flawless. I won't lie, I've had a fewwwws minor hiccups here and there nothing more. But I can't help but notice the problems other people encounter with their midlengths as far as setup goes. One guy says ohh my buffer and spring combo isn't right. Another says oh my gun is over gassed, then someone else complains oh it's my **** low powered ammo. The list is endless. Wtf is the deal. Tell me your stories, I just wanna here some other input on how you're weapon system is running compared to mine.

I just finished my second build and the third is half way as of now. The second one that just finished is the first time I owned or shot a middy gas system. Man it's so much more smooth. My first AR was a stag model 2 carbine upper on a stag lower i assembled with parts from geissele, RRA, and magpul. Recoil was much more noticeable, and had more of a clank when fired but it would eat anything! Threw a spikes st2 buffer in it and smoothed it out a bunch. My second build that just completed is a middy BCM and its like a Cadillac in comparison. My stag didn't have a single issue as long as I owned it. And this one is looking good too. No problems on assembly or its maiden voyage yesterday. Fingers crossed for the third one having the same luck. Just read a lot paid attention and took my time. Congrats on your build! Its a system and it needs to be tuned.
Several ways to do it and several things that affect tuning.
Barrel length, gas system length, gas port size, weight of carrier, types of gas rings, weight of buffer, weight of buffer springs, type of ammo.

So many variables here its hard to talk about without being anecdotal at best

I shot this gun for the first time yesterday. I went through around 400 rounds of a mixture of xm193 and Hornady TAP training rounds. I didn't have any issues. This thing is F****n bad @$$ I've never shot a 5.56 weapon that shoots so flat. I did notice my ejection pattern was around the 2 o'clock so I'm going to order a A5H2 and A5H3 buffer.

There is a BUNCH of BS out there.

You do not need any magic voodoo parts. All you need is an adjustable gas block. Tune the gas and the gun runs any ammo. You wont need heavy buffers, springs or any of the other crap.

I took ALL the weights out of my buffer and my gun cycles perfectly with zero recoil.

I have a BCM 16 Midlength on a BCM lower. Has a H buffer and I run a FailZero BCG. I haven't had any issues at all. I shoot steel and brass and don't notice any difference. It's my first and only AR, maybe I got lucky I haven't had to tune or adjust anything. Admittedly though I haven't ran it hard no carbine classes yet where something may show up.

Or you had a couple problems that you fixed ? If so, what issues and what did you do to fix them?

16" mid length PSA CHF upper, NiB BCG, A2 flash hider, H2 buffer with stock buffer spring. Ejects brass at 2:30 ish. might be slightly over gassed, but zero failures in 800-1000 rounds last year only shooting XP193.

Had bad ammo that FTE (Steel cased ammo) that particular round was really tore up when I took a look at it. And one occasion where my bolt didn't lock back on the last round. Switched out my buffer, problem solved.
