    SKS Clarification

I have a Norinco SKS in a Monte Carlo stock, no bayonet though the mount is there. I'm pretty sure the person I bought it from has the original stock and bayonet still. My question is, can detachable 10 round mags be used in this rifle? I went through the flow chart but I can't tell what model SKS this is. Is there a particular marking on it to help me ID this rifle?
    Thanks,
    Steve

No, the sporter SKS(fixed mag) is legal in ca, the other version(can't remember off the top of my head) is banned by name in CA, somebody will come along with a more thought out explanation

No. Your bubba rifle is stuck with fixed 10 rd mags. Do yourself a favor and replace the original stock and bayonet. The SKS is best in its original stock condition. Use the Monte Carlo as a target next time you go shooting.

In order to be CA legal, it can never have a detachable magazine.
SKS with detachable magazine is banned under the AWB of 1989. [PC 30510(a)(11)]
If it is marked "SKS" anywhere on the firearm and uses a detachable magazine, then it is banned.

        Penal Code 30510
As used in this chapter and in Sections 16780, 17000, and 27555, "assault weapon" means the following designated semiautomatic firearms:
        (a) All of the following specified rifles:
        (11) SKS with detachable magazine.

An SKS with a detachable magazine is considered an AW by the state. Can you say FELONY?

I haven't heard any good things about the detachable SKS mags anyway. Just use stripper clips, the way it was designed.

Yep, SKS detachable magazines are not reliable.
