Two hundred is pretty close. Any decent scope in your budget should do.

When did 200 yards become "long range"

There was a thread the other day(maybe earlier today) where someone referred to long range, and then mentioned 100 yards.

Just about any piece of glass in the $300+ range(as long as it's not from some BS company like countersniper or some crap) should be fine at 200 yards.

For 200 yards, just use an airsoft scope and aim .5-1.0 inches higher.

I would suggest a Leupold or a Redfield which is made by Leupold. A used Leupold off ebay will work fine. A 3X9X40 or 4X12X40 will be fine.
If you want some help I live close and would help you mount it/lap the rings.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

In that price range, the ONLY scope I would consider (I'm talking all brands) is a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 side focus with mildot reticle.
                      They are proven reliable.

For 200 yards all you need is a Nikon 4-12x40. I like the BDC reticle. I bought mine at Walmart. They're well within your $300 price range, use the rest of the money on accessories or ammo. A Nikon 4-12x40 is alot of bang for your buck. I love mine, it rides on my .308 and highly recommend it.

With a $300 limit, I'd be looking at a used Leupold. Nothing new in the under $300 range is going to be very good, comparatively speaking.

Personally, I think a used Leupold FX-III 6x42 is generally an amazing value on a great scope. Wonderful optics, incredibly tough, light, lifetime warranty and more than capable enough to handle most any shooting situation.

Well I wouldn't do that to OP. Just be careful what you're getting yourself into. A new counterfeit Leupold or a counterfeit Leupold being sold as used might show up. Just google "counterfeit leupold" and you'll see.

I myself, prefer the Burris scopes over Leupold anyway. For the same price, you're getting a better-quality scope. Read that as Leupolds are overpriced to start with. Being equal in build quality, the Burris gives you more contrast where the Leupold gives you a washed out colors.

Look into the recently released Burris Fullfield II E1 line of scopes.
