Do you have any punches that are the same diameter as the pin? You can get the holes lined up with the punch and then push the pin in from the other side, driving the punch out as it goes.__________________

theres a piece of metal that goes under the sight itself that acts as a spring the problem i was having is u have to put alot of presure on it to get the holes to line up. i tryed using a clamp to apply the pressure but it didnt work out i was wondering if anyone knew a trick to get it back insigpicComment

another qestion though
im not familiar with bolt action rifles the mosin is my first i am not a newb to marksmanship though and somethng about the chamber looks very odd. i didnt think to look when i puchased it the inside of the chamber on the right side recesses. from about the 12 oclock to the six oclock is about 2-3 mm deeper than the opsite side of the chamber it looks every odd. i can get a decent group at 25m but when i push out to 100m im still on the paper but the shot group disapears and i just scatterrounds all over the target. so what could be the problemsigpicComment

But seriously, what kind of ammo are you using? Mosin-Nagants can be almost as ammo sensitive as .22LR's. You might need to test a few varieties of surplus ammo to see what your rifle likes. How is the bore? How is the muzzle/crown?
Sometimes we need to just accept that these are 70 year old rifles built by communist slaves during the greatest war the planet has ever seen. QC might have suffered or age may have taken its toll.
You can always buy another one for $89 and take your chances again.Last edited by Mssr. Eleganté; 04-20-2008, 1:48 PM.__________________

Try a Finn M39. Those were built by real armourers and gunsmiths. Each is as much a work of fine craftsmanship as any other, and far and above what the Soviet guns could ever offer.
As for the rear sight, use a c-clamp. take the stock off first or you will wreck it. shave the clamping piece down if you have to to get it to fit.

ya i was i dont know if the scope was crap but i dont think it would matter only at 100 yards, i get 3in group at 25m but when i push it out no group at all or should i say the whole target is the group it seems as if there reandomly scatter across the target im goona try the irons to eliminate the scope as the culpriate plus i dont really like it. im like maybe the ammo would be he likely culpriate it was milsurp i think bulgarian if i rember right. so when im done with the tin im going try something else. another question though i was searchin the net to see how to adjust the windiage on the m38 and it says your supposed to move it with a hammer and punch, that doesnt relly sound like a good idea to me but im not an expert.
PS it was really windy would that affect anything at only 100m?sigpicComment

yup, use a brass punch. No doubt the combo of the scope moving and the aurplus ammo are causing the problem if the bore is bright and the crown without defect.
I don't think I'd ever say a Mosin, expecially the carbines are tack drivers but 4" at 100 yards is doable with good surplus.Comment
