My Rem 700 in 6.5 Swede + machined a Monopod

Picked this 1994 (only year it was made) 700 in 6.5x55 from a fellow calguns member in original trim. Fitted a Bobby Hart birch accublock stock plus the Leupold 6.5-20x50 and a bi-pod. A heavy McGowen 28" 1:8.5 twist cromoly barrel is on order (my third from them).

I also machined/milled the nightforce 20 moa base length down to get rid of the "surfboard" on the end and allow the scope to sit further back in a comfortable sight picture to cheek weld position.

Since my other long ranger is all tactical looking and I shoot in the desert areas a lot I thought this stock would be a nice fit.

    3/26 update

Made a monopod out of aluminum and stainless and neoprene to fit snug against the stock. Used the taped hole from the sling stud. Extends about 1.5" from the starting point. 13 rotations per inch

Nice! The 6.5x55 cartridge is a super accurate cartridge. My Swedish Mausers are sub minute of angle rifles with good ammo. It will be interesting to see just how accurate the Remington 700 will be with the bedding block and heavy barrel.
    Poke'm with a stick!

Oh, man that looks awesome! I'd love to have a newer rifle in 6.5x55 Swede to pair with my 1906 Swede m/96

I plan to find out. Factory 6.5x55 rounds are loaded pretty light as to suit the older mausers - my hand loads are closer to 60kpsi vs the 51-53k of factory with a book max of 55k. With these .595, .61, .618 BC bullets now-a-days and a barrel speed of 2800-2900 you're looking at supersonic round at 1400-1450yards.

        142smk in 6.5 vs 168smk in .308

          Nice !!

But I do not understand the fascination with aluminum bedding blocks. If you do even a simple search on the properties of materials, aluminum is about the worst thing in terms of expansion due to heat. And the best ? Who would have guessed. Wood.

Factory Lapua and Norma ammo is plenty hot. So is Federal and was Speer.

Oh I know all about alloys. My job is tracking and ordering thousands of different materials and alloys for aircraft parts machining. But on the list of top attributes for a stock, its reaction to heat i'd imagine is pretty low.

They should make disc brakes outta wood, amirite?

Sweet looking rifle. I'm a big fan of wood stocks, and an even bigger fan of the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser cartridge.

My Tikka 695 in 6.5x55 with a 29" barrel. Shoots the 139 Lapua Scenar @ 2950 fps with RL17 and Wolf primers.

Great looking rifles! I love my Swede Mauser! Even with iron sights its super accurate, can't imagine what it would do with a nice barrel and optics.

Yes but it is a closer match to fiberglass that was the original stock material for bedding blocks.

I'll assume that's a SWAG and not measured?

I'd also love to get a good bolt 6.5x55 to go along with my swede. plus, was really thinking for my son to go deer hunting with me. love that round.

wonder what the options are for that? probably have to look into used I guess?

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

This would have started life as the "Classic" series, correct?

I'm becoming a big fan of Stocky's Stocks too. Seems like a great value. I picked one up for my 700 VLS in 6mm Remington and the difference in comfort is amazing. I have a 700 MLR in an HS and am almost sold on switching out.
