Hey guys I am picking up my rem 700 from jail. DO I clean and lube it before anything? Also which part to I use lube on? Is hops cleaning solution okay to use on the rifle?

Best to break a new barrel in with some lube made for the process, here's one I will try on a new Hart custom Barrel: http://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/...roductId/23687 In the past I have used Holland's Witches Brew Break-in Fluid and Lock-Ease. I never shoot a dry barrel, but one with a very thin film of lube.

Ordering from Grafs takes about three weeks these days. Search out another vendor. I bet you can't wait, so just fire with a rest between shots and clean after a few shots to keep heat and fouling manageable.

Lube the cocking cam under the rear of the bolt, that angled ramp, makes things break-in smoother. Apply with a tooth pick and don't glop it on. There are lubes made for this too - check www.sinclairintl.com

Also a thin coat of high pressure grease on the rear of each locking lug prevents galling (although the top lug seldom contacts the receiver lug anyway). There are special lubes for this, but I use moly wheel bearing grease and it works fine.

Keep lube out of the trigger, and if hunting in sub freezing temperatures, remove all the lube, paying attention to the inside of the bolt and the firing pin assembly. Use a dry lube in those conditions.

Thank you very much for your insight. I put a thin film of lube inside of the barrel. I use lube that was recommended buy some one at turners. Its called zero friction. I lubed the bolt. I lubed both lugs. I just followed the owners manual but its a little undetailed at times.

Question guys what bore brush do I use. I have a crappy Winchester cleaning kit from Wal-Mart and it has a 30 Cal brush and a 270 cal. OR if these aren't correct can you point me to a proper brush please. Man owning a rifle seems so different than pistols. I hope I don't screw anything up

Purchase a bore guide, a one piece cleaning rod that is nylon or teflon coated. Only use nylon brushes. Get a parker hale style jag for the patch cleaning. What Caliber is the rifle?

the rifle is a 7mm. What is a bore guide? never heard of it. Also I am some what limited on cash.

Hey can some one tell me what caliber brush fits the 7mm rem mag? also does any one know of a decent bipod for under 40 that will fit a rem 700 sps? I don't have cash to buy 60 and up.

Do yourself a favor and save up the $100 for a Harris BiPod.

What is your intended use for the rifle hunting or target? If its hunting get the 9-13 HBLM or if its for Target get the 6-9 BRMS

I only plan to target shoot. Does the bipod just mount no problem?

I'd go frog lube instead. Way better than zero friction, and can treat the whole gun.

Thanks. I have heard mixed reviews of frog lube. I will give it a try though. But can some one please tell me what caliber bore brush for a 7mm rem mag. And where I can possibly get a used harris bipod 6-9 inches.
