    sks upper hand guard removal?

Is the end cap riveted on or can I just punch it out. From the shooter's view do I punch it from left to right. Also where can I buy a crossbolt for the stock. When I removed the trigger group from the stock a small 1 1/8" spring fell out, where does that go?

I was considering doing this on my SKS. There are two types of rivets for that. One some you can tell that one side has a larger pin head than the other. The larger pin side is the side they ran it from. On others (like mine) you cant tell which side it was push in from. Almost like if it was compressed using a clamp rather than hammered in. In both cases I hear that once you get it out, it won't go back in and you need to get or find a new pin.

The spring is inserted into the stock right where the rear tang of the trigger assembly goes. It is there to maintain pressure against the trigger guard against the catch that holds it in. Look at the stock near the trigger guard (with the trigger guard removed) you will see the hole where it goes.

I had the same problem with my Yugo when I first got it. I looked all over for instructions. I asked a bunch of people on different boards and I always got the same answer. Lightly hammer it out with a small punch. Well, that didn't work. I eventually had to drill it out. If it's a really nice Chinese or Russian SKS I wouldn't do that, but if it's just a Yugo plinker just drill it and replace it either with a new part, or you can do what I did. Take a finishing nail and grind it into that size pin and you can make it to your specs. Good luck.
