Tips, Tricks and Need to Know Problems

I won a Springfield M1A at a Friends of the NRA dinner and frankly don't know a lot about them so any info helps. It's in jail and I'm searching for .308 which is easier said then done right now.

I'm looking for any good info about the M1A that will help me so share your tips, tricks and need to know problems.

They're good to go rifles, I can tell you that much. They're based on the old M14 but in semi-auto instead of select fire. They generally come featureless so no bullet button needed and you could, if you had them, use full size mags.

There's a pretty good after market for parts ranging anywhere from actual components to stocks. They're easy to add a scope to, you just need to buy a mount specifically made for an M1A that will screw into the side of the receiver, however, it can make the rifle noticeably heavier and with a wooden stock they're already pretty heavy, you also need a cheek comb because it's pretty much impossible to get a cheek weld and still be able to look down the scope.
