Side Charging Question

Unless you're a lefty I can't see any advantage with the side charging carrier you posted.

I've been talking to the boy about making a side charging AR without a gas tube.

Otherwise known as a bolt action AR.

Put a 10/30 mag, bipod, forward grip, laser, red dot, scope, flashlight and hang a couple of extra tubes off it then send a picture to Leland Yee.

I wonder if I can attach a chain saw to it

Yet, strangely, the reciprocating charging handle on an AK or SKS never seems to be a problem...

Never said it was a problem. Just said it LOOKS like it can pack a punch.

In the video, it looks like you have to be pretty careful to keep your thumb down if you use the magwell area as a forward grip.

True. I don't use the magwell grip, though. Most people I would assume don't as well. I'm sure there are those who do, like the guy in the video. Don't really understand the reasoning of using the magwell as a grip when you have real estate the size of Florida as a handguard.

+1 but I do see times when a mag well grip might be desired or when a newbie just forgets to not do it even when you tell them.

Yes you can, but recommend using the DPMS slickside upper. It's thicker than a regular upper receiver.

This is great, going to get the LARs ambi upper to go with my mega lower. Anyone know how a gas piston set up/conversion kit would work with this set up?

I use both. I switch to magwell grip when I get tired, it lets me shoot more without getting fatigue since I can rest my upper arm against my body.

That 2 Vets is an OPS4 according to their website.
Quick note on that, I guess LAR Grizzly was purchased by Remington. So fate of that product is unknown, cant get any re sellers to comment. I planned to get one, but too late possibly...

I thought to myself, no big deal I will just give LAR a call. Since LAR was bought by Remington, I now have to order the replacement part through a FFL and the list price is $20. 1, $20 for a bolt is crazy, and 2, having to go to a FFL to order a replacement part blows. Just as a comparison, a replacement charging handle for a JR Carbine is $7.50 shipped ordered directly from their webpage.

Have you tried a hardware store? Or order like 50-100 from McMaster-Carr for like 10 bucks.

That reciprocating charging handle looks like its going to smack the **** out of anything it touches....

Just like an AK, mini14, m1a, garland etc...

That only happens if you leave the non-reciprocating handle back and depress the bolt release...

The bolt has to have a shoulder because the holes are threaded straight through. Thread to deep and the bolt will impinge on the bolt locking the BCG in place.

When I checked McMaster they did not have the right specs. But I will double check.

Have you tried a hardware store? Or order like 50-100 from McMaster-Carr for like 10 bucks.

I don't know what the piece people are asking about looks like, but there are shoulder bolts in all manner of diameters and lengths.
