input please, Marlin Model 60 rifles. your experance and or thoughs please

    Ok,
I will make this a long story short.

I have a 22 rifle. Very accurate, not to bad to clean.
Fun to shoot (WHILE IT WORKS!!)

    Longer story shorter form.

The firing pin can only be obtained from one place
their pins were not tempered right, brittle in the middle
snap after one or two rounds.
About 4 or 5 exchanges later I think its time to retire this rifle.
Unless someone has machine options and can make some.

So On my way to meet Glen Avon today I stopped into
a pawn shop great people working there great attitude,
    Just great overall.

They have a Marlin 60 Tubefed 22 lr.
I have not personally used a tubefed rifle.
I do like the magazine option for a faster load
    drop and reload.
Chris did mention they make speed loaders for this
Marlin, and its obivously not that hard, Also I guess
one MAJOR advatage in KOMMIEFORNIA Is its a 14 round
capacity because the TUBEFED rifle dosent have the
    same restrictions..

So please anyone throw some of your thoughts in on it,
and tell me what you think, 100ish price wise (with fee's included)
Damn kommiefornia fees lol and reliability etc.

    there are 2 inexpensive semi-auto .22s in the US - ruger's 10/22 and marlin's 60.
the marlin is slimmer and an use 14 rds. the ruger has a bajillion or so aftermarket accessories and detachable mags.

if you want a bone-stock plinker, nothing wrong with the model 60.

      Can't say I have

I can't say I have looked into remington 597's yet.
I will have to check into thoes as well.

My main thing would be low cost,
But I have no idea what new retail would be
on some of these as well..

The lower the better of course

My freind has the ruger, Its not bad at all. Nice
solid feel and good size. i dindt think of addon's
      Great point!

come to think of it, I didnt even check the Marlin to see if
It was easy to add a scope or not.
A scope would be nice, i have a cheapie I could throw on the
      Future buy.

scopes on a marlin are cake, IIRC the receiver is grooved.

Scopes are easy to mount, they're accurate, no mags to lose, 14 rounds, I have one and love it.

I have a Glenfield-Marlin Model 60 that I have been shooting for 30 years and even though the bore is almost free of rifling now it can still bounce pop cans at 100 feet with ease.

I have an old Glenfield Model 60 made I believe in 1981 (not exactly sure, but it was the last year that they were called "glenfield"). The buffer is smashed, and there is something seriously wrong with the trigger (the trigger pull is about 15 pounds!). I know it's the trigger itself (the part that remains in the stock).

Other than the issues, it is quite accurate. Also, it can hold more than 10 rounds legally.

I hear that new ones have quite a bit of plastic in them.

I have heard that the model 60 is often more accurate out of the box than the 10/22, but the 10/22 has so many accessories (and a detachable magazine) that it seems to be a better choice. I plan on getting one, but it's not on my "get before they ban it" list.

Had one, reasonably accurate, worked great, stolen over the weekend.

Learned to shoot on one 20 years ago, too.

                      That sucks.

I have a 60, bought used for about 60 bucks last year. From '83, IIRC. It has the older, longer barrel and magazine, holds 17 rounds, I think. I have a speedloader for it from Cabelas, which is sort of a mixed blessing, since it just means I burn ammo even faster. Bolt holds open for last shot, whoch I'm told the Ruger doesn't do, for reasons I don't understand. It's more accurate than me. Grooved for a scope, but I like the simplicity of iron sights. I've been thinking about some peep sights, but they'd probably cost more than the gun itself. Reliability is fine. The only time I had problems was once, after a cleaning. The first mag had about five FTFs. Figured I must have put it back together incorrectly. The next mag, and every one after that, went fine. That'll teach me to clean my gun. I usually run the cheapo Federal bulk from Walmart or CCI Blazers. Mostly, I pop potatoes out in the desert with it. If it was lost, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

                          Tube magazines?

So I never knew that tube magazines were held to lesser restrictions. My buddy has a old M60 that holds 17rds, boy is that thing a blast to shoot. I always wanted one myself but I thought the new ones only had 10rd tubes.

So if I ordered a new lever action Marlin M39A, would it come with the 19rd tube mag advertised on their website?

                          ...please say yes...

I have an old Glenfield 60. It's a great little rifle, and is also a tack driver!!! Mine has a 19 round mag, so it's 19+1. Every now and then it jams but no big deal. I say get one. Here's mine.

I've got a Marlin 60 that's a great gun. Inexpensive, sturdy, reliable, accurate (beats my 10/22 that cost twice as much), and you can get them for under $100 used.

Gotta love a gun like that. There's a good reason they're the best-selling .22 rifle in America!
