I had the same problem when i was DROSing my Saiga awhile back. Every email reply was..those are illegal assault weapons and they refused to listen to me when i would try to explain. That or they'd say..it may be legal but we don't want to be hassled by the DOJ.

Semi-automatic centerfire rifle. Just the same as your Mini-14 or M-1 Garand.

Remember, emails are great for communicating information and clarifying details...BUT the sale is found inside your passion and eloquence. In your absence, don't rely on your keystrokes to deliver your message.

"Do you have any semi-automatic centerfire rifles in stock?". Hmm... that doesn't really help.

Then you are missing the point.

Not if you put it in the context of the original post.

                Geez.
                The actual original context is
"We are unable to carry AR 15 lowers, as they are "illegal assault weapons" here in CA."
                Read: "AR 15 lowers".

                1. The context implies receivers, not rifles.
                2. These are not AR-15 receivers.
                3. These are bare receivers, neither centerfire, nor caliber-specific.

To answer your question, re: rifles...
                1. These are not AR-15 rifles
                2. These rifles, depending upon config., are generally 'self-loading' or 'semi-auto' centerfire rifles. When built into a .223 semi-auto rifle, they are in the same category as a MINI-14 or KelTec SU-16.
                3. Just like you would for the MINI, ask for them by brand name, i.e. Stag, MEGA, Doublestar etc.
                4. If you don't know a brand name, then start with the basics, "do you have any semi-auto rifles in stock?" "What brands/rifles do you carry"....

I'm not suggesting you're an idiot, I'm suggesting that a lot has gone on to get us to the point that the market is open to selling these. Your expectations belie your lack of understanding of the history of OLLs. That was my point. It wasn't personal. Threads like this appear almost weekly, with people astonished that ARs and AKs aren't being sold by every shop in their area.

There are risks associated with any action. Some shops are unwilling to take those risks, just as some individuals are unwilling to buy them.

Not to be hostile but I'm not an idiot. I'm familiar with california gun and knife laws. Being that I have never purchased or built a rifle I've never been exposed to the innards of the firearms industry.

To get a little more specific I prefer ".223 self-loading rifle". This is what I tell the RO's when I go shoot at Coyote Point in San Mateo. Then they see the rifle and ask for my "AW papers". I then have to explain to them that it's not an AW, yadda, yadda. Never been turned away but have had to do a fair amount of education.

I looked around and it sounds like the most specific term without mentioning a brand would be "Off-list AR-15 clone".

Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
