Muzzle Brake vs Flash Hider (Help)

Hello. Tried searching but couldn't find a comparison thread. Can someone please note the pros and cons of one vs. the other? Is there anything that gives you a combination of both functions?

What kind of weapon, if you put it on a semi-auto it can count as an evil feature and turn it into an assault weapon. The above guide is pretty good.

I don't want to read all of that. Can you just explain it to me quickly and briefly.

Stag Ar-15. But I believe it came from factory with a "flash supressor".

I think it's the Battle comp that is a good combo.

My guide that was posted above is primaraly for featureless rifles.
If you are running a magazine lock then you can have any type of muzzle device, while featureless can not have Flash Suppressors.

Flash Hiders/Suppressors do what they name says. They attempt to reduce muzzle flash.
Brakes and Compensators try to redirect gasses to minimalize muzzle climb and recoil.
Yes there are hybrid devices such as the PWS FSC, Rainier Arms XTC etc.

In CA if a device functions as a Flash Suppressor even if its named, classify, advertised etc as a brake or comp then CADOJ will rule it as a FH/FS.
Also if they merely name or name, classify or advertise it as a FH/FS then CADOJ would rule it as one.

                See also the flowchart:
Flash Suppressor/ Flash Hider is a device attached to or integral with the muzzle of a firearm, designed to eliminate or reduce the
incandescent flash of the firearm's discharge. Although they can reduce the visibility of the firearm's location when fired, they are primarily
designed to prevent the shooter's vision from being blinded by the flash at night. Many flash hiders also act as a muzzle brake.
Characteristics of a flash suppressor: The majority of these devices come in two styles. The multi prong and the birdcage flash
suppressor. The inner cavity of the muzzle device is usually several times the diameter of the bore. The muzzle device usually has large slots
to allow the propelling gasses to blow through: redirecting, reducing, eliminating the muzzle flash from the shooters field of vision.
                .
Muzzle Brake/ Muzzle Compensator is a device attached to or integral with the muzzle of a firearm,
designed to redirect the propelling gasses to counter the firearm's: recoil, muzzle rise.
                .
Characteristics of muzzle brake: The major difference between a flash suppressor and a muzzle brake is
the size of the inner cavity. The inner cavity of a muzzle brake is usually just slightly larger than the diameter
of the bore. This better traps the propelling gasses behind the bullet. This forces/redirects more of the gasses
to escape through small ports/slots in the muzzle device. These ports/slots are usually machined/drilled in
strategic locations or angled to divert the gasses to reduce the firearm's: recoil, muzzle rise.

Um one is for lessening the visible flash from a shot, the other helps keep you on target .

I use a Phantom brake. Haven't used anything else but I have seen comparisons with the Phantom Vs PWS and there was no noticeable difference. And for 35 bucks its hard to spend more on a negligible difference.

Brakes will however make a bigger flash (5poined star in this case) and are considerably louder.

If you really need flash suppression and a brake, then PWS is the way to go. It does both really well.

I have a pws fsc. Far more of a comp than FH.
