Shooting in Nevada?

Are you asking if it is legal to drive with your guns out of CA and into NV?
A: yes, as long as you obey applicable transport laws.
Are you asking if it's legal to shoot in the desert there?
A: it depends where you go. You can shoot on most BLM land outside the Las Vegas valley. But there are restrictions you must be aware of. The best thing to do is check with shooters who are familiar with the specific area you want to go to.

If you are going to vegas get off at Sloan offramp make a right and go couple miles on La Vegas blvd. You will see blm ok to shoot and 4wd on left we shoot there. Lots of access for 2 wd.Comment

Taking guns (properly stowed/locked) across the border is no issue.
I was at a Nevada range a few months ago, just over the CA border off 80. There was an informal range just off an exit, a few of us were there shooting when a cop came up, and informed us that no one can shoot there anymore.
he said you can shoot anywhere in NV as long as you are more than ~5000 feet/1 mile from any residential locations. We were on BLM land, but there was some new development that was, as the crow flies, within that distance.
he recommended going a bit north and way west of Reno.Last edited by UP2MTNS; 02-08-2013, 2:18 PM.Comment

not only that, but you can even buy hi-cap mags to your hearts content and have them shipped there for use in NV as well.
My parents live just outside of Reno and I ship them stuff, but my 'bill to' address when I purchase online is CA. no issues.Comment

It sure is. One caveat I haven't seen anyone mention yet is Indian Reservations. They are not always well marked, but the Tribal Police will get very cross with you if they catch you shooting on Indian land.
If you're going to go up to the Reno area (don't know anything about Vegas, sorry), a good place to stop is the BLM office in Reno. They have maps (some free, some cost a few dollars) and I've always found helpful people there. They can point you towards common shooting areas (established ranges as well as informal areas in which it is safe to shoot).
I could suggest a ton of places, but I don't know how far into Nevada you want to drive.Comment

Damn, must be my Battered Gun Owner Syndrome showing through, again.
Yes, Nevada is a wonderful place for gunnies overall. There are some fun spots to go shoot outside of Sparks, I think it was off Winnemucca Ranch Road.Comment

Odd how he didn't rape your with the Power Of The State Stick-o-Love and then taze you for good measure, isn't it?

I know, when he first pulled up with his lights on my first thought was, "Oh ****, he's going to find some reason to confiscate all our guns."Comment

The Las Vegas BLM Office is in North Las Vegas. Get maps there. Also, there is a shooting area map available and I believe it is also on their website. Lots of good information.
You can take your guns over there and shoot them without special permits. Just be sure that you're not in a restricted shooting area; use the maps. Lots of good camping and shooting areas north and east of Las Vegas.
For more information see the BLM site: http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/lvfo/...oting_and.html
