LEFTY RECIEVERS

You have many choices in lefty receiver...
As long as you like Stag/CMT.
If you're considering a lefty and don't want a Stag-built upper, you can contact Randall @ AR15barrels, who can build you one from parts/blank.
MSTN, I believe, will also build lefty guns... if you like shelling big money out.
A lot of lefties don't even bother.

i wouldnt even bother with it, and im a lefty shooter.
i believe its better to have universal parts with everyone elses kit.
ambi safty, extended CH latch is all i care for. mag changes using thumb of forward hand is what i was taught to do and im damn fast at it.
YMMVComment

Hi there ,
I am a lefty. I have been shooting the AR platform for about 25 year. I never thought I would need a lefty upper, But about 2 months ago I just went for it. I picked up a Stag lefty upper. I couldnt be more happy. Not that I couldnt before, But now can really put my cheek and nose right up on the rear sight. Also now I can wrap my hand around the fron of the reciever and not have my thumb 1/4 inch from the chamber. It just feels better to me. If you are near fremont you are welcome to try my upper out. One other thing. I like walking around with mine out in the field. Now I dont have the damm shell deflector and forward assist poking me in the belly. Not that it was a big issue but I did notice it from time to time.

DPMS has a line of "South Paw" upper receivers, bolts, assemblies, ect.
Stag mirrored everything including forward assist to the left side and the bolt rotates backwards which is proper for a true lefty gun.

I built a lefty rifle based on a stripped Stag upper using a free-floated White Oak midlength-drilled barrel. Very fun to shoot and very accurate.
That said, my other rifles are standard righty, and apart from the occasional case glancing off my cheek, I have no issues. In fact, I find that there are actually a couple of advantages for a lefty shooting a righty AR. You can easily visually check the status of the bolt without changing your firing position or even moving your head. Also, it's quick and easy to activate the bullet button with your forward hand while your trigger hand is still on the grip. Finally, as has been noted, it's extremely easy to activate the bolt catch button with your trigger finger.
So in my opinion, lefty uppers are nice to have, but not really necessary.Last edited by psriley; 04-01-2008, 12:52 PM.A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.Comment
