JJPearl Installation help (San Diego) Please

Hello, over the weekend I tried to install the JJPearl Mag Lock and failed with the tools I had (hand drill and a handful of drill bits). It just felt like the bits were going to break if I put any more pressure and I was scarred of scratching up the receiver. All I successfully accomplished was removing all the parkerization off of the rivet.

If anyone near the UTC/La Jolla area (San Diego) can or is willing to help it would be much appreciated.

I am assuming this install should be a lot easier with a drill press and a proper drill bit.

    Thanks

I've never done one of those. I do have a machine shop, located near Petco Park. Do you have a link to the install instructions?

    all the best,

    Mike
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

According to calguns user "m24armorer", the install instructions that come with the jjperl AK bullet button are not quite right. This assessment comes as a result of his recent installation of the bullet button, using the instructions provided, on an AK build he did for me.

I think he plans to contact jjperl with his suggestions for improvement.

I wish I could remember the details of what he said, but at the time I was too busy admiring his handiwork (thread to come, once I get some decent pics taken).

I have a JJ pearl BB on mine and I used a hand drill as well. I was steady and gave it a firm press until the head came off. If I remember correctly I used a 3/16 drill bit. Once you have the head knocked out just tap it out with a hammer or the screw the BB comes with.

If I use a hammer and a punch, will the pin that comes out be reusable if I ever wanted to go back or move to a free state?

          Thanks

Those pesky AK rivets are hardened. Go to Lowes's or OSH and get a Cobalt metal drill bit. It will eat through the rivets.

No, you will have to purchase a new one and re-press it.

From my understanding you will have to replace the entire trigger guard assembly. Or you can purchase an after market rivet from a hardware store and use a press or airhammer.

t/g's with mag catches are becoming very scarce. these and rear trunnions are the first casualties in demil. a $40 h/f drillpress is a very good investment.
