You need something resembling a budget.

I've done this about 10 times for 10 different people recently. You can search those for more ideas. I even posted a thread to help people get options for $1100 complete rifle builds.

If it were me, I'd buy

BCM (Bravocompany USA) mid-length 16" barreled upper w/f-marked fsb ($390)
        BCM BCG ($130)
The DD 12.0SPM Lite Rail ($340)

You'd need a rear sight, too. I'm partial to Troy.

Sorry, what he wants isn't going to happen.

I posted the cheapest version of quality/cost there, short the DD lite rail. You could replace that with Troy and save $100.

FF rails that extend that far cost money.

                Good barrels cost money.

                In-spec parts cost money.

If he just wants some look then get the Stag 2HT.

For under 700 I could install a Midwest Industries 20x free float on a Stag 2H. That forearm extends on either side of the front sight base and still allows the use of the sling loop. The look is not for everyone though. If it was me at that budget I would just get the 2HT.

hah i didnt figure that he would get it all for 700.

new criteria is that it doesnt hav eto be free floating and the rails dont hav eto extend past the front sight.

what else is out there off the shelf besides the stag upper that is like that? anything thats 1/7"?

Why does he "require" 1:7? Is he shooting 77gr. on a regular basis?

Rather than sacrifice what you want, why doesn't he just save some more cash and get a better upper? We're only talking about a few hundred dollars between something that you don't really want vs. something that's really good.

I wouldn't go more than 1in8 twist on the barrel. You'll be able to shoot a broader range of bullets using a 1in 8 than a 1in7. But hey it's your shooter get what you want.

                        Good luck

I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.
