what to do with unregestered banned ar15

"Suppose" someone once bought a now banned AR15 in 1999, and they never registered the firearm in the time alloted by the state, is there anyway to make the rifle legal to own in California? Like by adding a bullet button?

If there is nothing that can be done to make it legal, what would/could one do with the banned "assault" rifle?

    Thanks

If its not banned by name, yes you can mag lock it.

      If banned by name,
You can cut the receiver in half and replace it with a OLL.
You can sell it out of state.

Just give it to the nice men in black that will be knocking on your door momentarily, this forum is monitored by the DOJ, and various law enforcement agencies.

In all seriousness though, it is. Check the flow chart here: http://www.calguns.net/caawid/hgflowchart.pdf
The banned by name rifles are listed. If its not banned by name you could add a bullet button. You should seperate the upper from the lower ASAP, as this will give you a small, very small, margin of safety as it won't be functional.

If its banned by name buy an off list lower, strip the parts out of the listed one and build the off list one with the parts. The lower is the firearm, everything else is just parts.

Don't take it out of state, as you risk possible felony charges for possession of an AW if stopped on the way for any number of reasons, for a relatively small amount of money. Your freedom isn't worth a freaking grand or two.

First as already mentioned, check if it is banned by make/model on the banned list using the flow chart at the top of every page. If it is not banned by make/model, install a bullet button and run 10 round mags. If it is banned, either contact a lawyer to arrange for it to be turned into the police, or strip everything out of the lower, destroy the lower, and replace with an OLL, install BB with 10 rounders, and go shooting.

Not recommended action followed by recommended action:
Remove all parts from the lower, including all little stuff until it's just a skeleton, save parts, buy legal lower, install same. Take illegal lower and toss in the bay.....or.....call an attorney, pay attorney to negotiate legal surrender of said weapon.

People who wonder about that question should read the wiki article -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Po...ult_weapons%22.

They should NOT post a non-hypothetical question.

Why destroy the lower when it can be sold out of state for some nice money?
                            Two reasons:
                            1) transport of an unregistered 'assault weapon' is a felony.

                            2) the real value of a stripped lower is about $200, ignoring for the moment the current supply/demand situation.

If it's banned by name then it is what it is. Keep it, and tell no one about it 'OP. If you can delete this thread, do so...
