    Bushmaster Carbon 15

Went into Shooters Warehouse to buy patches, ended up buying a Bushmaster Carbon 15 instead. This is my first foray into the AR platform (I've only been shooting my SKS and handguns) and the price was right at $800 with optics so I figured this would be a good carbine to at least get started with. The reviews have thrown me a bit and seemed to be a mixed bag. My question is, what have I gotten myself into and what should I be wary of? I don't foresee it going through any heavy use (or match shooting for that matter) other than typical range shooting.

Just don't fall on it. Seen some that cracked or broke.

    Here's a picture of one I saw on ar15armory.

I've thought about putting a carbon-15 upper with a pencil barrel on a LW-15 lower, and seeing how light I could get an AR-15.. I'm guessing 4-5lbs?

I'd never use it as a SHTF rifle, but it would be a fun build.

I wish they sold the stripped uppers.

That's good to hear. Fortunately, the one I purchased didn't have the sealed magwell and had a functional bullet button instead.

DAMN! One more reason to stay away from plastic AR's!

The newer ones have the forward assist, dust cover and magazine well and supposedly built better.

A friend has this set up, it was made by another company before Bushmaster took over, don't recall the name.. The rifle weighs 3.9 lbs. Probably made during the 1994 AW ban as it has a spring loaded ball & detent set up for attaching the flash hider - no "threaded barrel" issue.
