When did the law change that i can no longer fill out the safe affidavit for a rifle? Some tard at a local store told me i HAVE to buy a lock if the gun doesn't come with one..

    Wrong.

Many stores make me buy a lock anyways. They always tell me sorry, it is the law... In fact I find this to be the case more than not. Even though I know it is not correct.

Hell even JD made me do this to pickup my lower. One lock per lower!

Sacramento Black Rifle does not require you to buy a lock. The affidavit was sufficient. I actually have my receipt for it when I go to purchase anything.

Filled one out last week, and filled one out this afternoon...

I believe the term here is bamboozled! I'd ask to talk to a manager, or take your business elsewhere.

My LGS makes you buy one, they staple the receipt to their paperwork and once you put the firearm in your car you can walk back in and return the lock. They seem to think it's the law and it's not worth my time arguing about. Then they ask if you want a slidefire stock.

Good idea, if I make another trip to JD I will try to return the lock lol. I doubt they will take it back though.

Safe affidavit is only no longer good for handguns. Many under informed FFL's confuse the two laws. Long guns are good to go with a safe affidavit.....c good

I lauged so hard when I received my last rifle and they pulled that bs on me. there was a lock but no key "not a problem" the clerk said I just lauged and lauged. The irony was lost on the clerk but I found that **** to be hilarious ..... What good is a lock with no key? About as good as a price of paper with your safe model on it I suppose. Personal responsibility trumps bureaucracy every time.

I create my own receipt for gun locks and bring in one I already own.

The Gun Exchange in San Jose and Gun Works in Pleasant Hill still do the safe request form. Filled it out and went on my way.

It could be policy of the store, but make sure to ask before purchase. If it's a matter of staying legal it's one thing, but for them to squeeze a few more bucks out of a deal and hide the truth is another.
Anyway...here's a dearth of reasoning to ponder: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Guns

They told me specifically the law changed a year ago... I called bs and went in my way. This store will be ferrying very little if my business from now on.

Jackson Arms had me do a Safe Affidavit when I PPT'd a Px4 handgun just this past December.

Faith Armory pulled the same **** on me this weekend during a PPT. Stated that it needs to be "manufactured specifically for the gun or manufactured by the handgun manufacturer for the gun and be in it's original packaging". Which seems like a riff on the "identified as appropriate for that firearm by reference to either the manufacturer and model of the firearm..." BS.

On the other hand Big 5 made me fill out an affidavit it turns out wasn't even necessary, since it was for a C&R, anyway.

Their hands may be tied, but it sure seems like sometimes they ask for their hands to be tied, doesn't it?

All a moot point, it seems, if BAFTE have not recognized the regulation, according to Librarians link, allowing for everybody's own interpretation.

Man, I have never seen so many people on so many different fronts conspire to make participation in and enjoyment of a hobby so difficult (and expensive).
