    Changing Handguards

    Quick Handguard change-out question!

I picked up an upper recently from Alquist Arms,
and I am happy with what I got, but I would prefer a quad rail hand guard instead of what i has on it currently.

Its a Spikes 16" Upper, Chrome lined, 1/9 twist. (if that matters)
Right now it has a Magpul MOE FDE handguard (as seen in the attached photo)
and I would like to swap over to a quadrail of the same length. Is there anything I would need to purchase beside the quad rail? or would I be able to use the existing mounting hardware?

And are there any specific hand guards I should look into?
I already have EVERYTHING i need to build the AR in my hand, or its been ordered and will be here in a week or so, now I am just customizing for my taste.

A drop in system would not require you to do anything, like the classic kac rail systems.

If you want a free floated rail that's a different story.

You need a Strong Vice, a Vice block for your upper, at minimum.

Looks like you can use any 7" handguard without anything extra, if you want to go longer length you'll have to buy a low profile gas block and some pin punches to take off the fsb.

Take a look at the Daniel Defense Omega or Centurion Arms C4. The DD rail requires no modification and the Centurion Arms requires removal of the delta ring.

Here you go, no gun smithing involved.

Ok, So if i stick with the same setup I can basically just do a simple swap with no other mods needed?

and those are some nice guards! but I was expecting a quad rail to be closer to $40 or $50! lol
            thanks for the info though!

You can get an airsoft grade one for 50 bucks.

Really though, what do you plan on mounting. The MOE is good for lights and AFGs etc. For mounting optics, you really need a freefloat.

Magpul has rail sections you can install on that handguard.

You can probably buy a box of ammo with the $100 you save.

I went with the Daniel Defense Omega 7 on mine, no mods required to the gun. No vise required, I think it even came with the allen wrench. If you shop on line you can them for around $200.

What do you intend to mount to the quad rail? The slots in the MOE are for mounting rail sections.

Just my opinion, but keep the MOE. You wont burn your hand on a hot day at the shooting range. Aluminum Quads look cool, but suck with use.

I swapped my handguards out on the floor of my living room gun fully intact. Only tool needed was the Allen wrench to screw my quad rail together. IMO vice blocks are a waste.

didnt think about that, personally, i like the bulkier feel of the quad. AND i would be covering it with the lego pieces so it is a black/tan/gray color combo leaving no aluminum to touch.

if anyone has a quad in good shape in nor-cal and is willing to trade i will, as long as its the same length as my MOE.
my MOE has NEVER been used, as i havent put my ar fully together yet.
