    AR retest

    Hello to all,

Today I'm taking my ailing CMMG upper out to the range for a retest using some different brands of ammo. Today I'm bring the usual PMC "Bronze" as a comparison but in addition I'm bringing American Eagle and a few boxes of Federal XM193.

I also got a chamber brush and super cleaned the chamber. I scrubed that chamber so good I must have removed some chrome....HA HA

The bolt and carrier was re-cleaned and this time applied much more oil than before making sure items liike the ejector and extractor function that I could see.

Hand cycling revealed a smoother bolt carrier going back and forth but in my opinion the buffer spring seems to be a little heavy. When I get to the range I'll see if they're any markings on the buffer itself. Perhaps that's my main issue???? Too heavy of a buffer spring?

Anyway let's see how she runs. Get back to you all this evening or sooner

        Dutch Schultz and stag6.8,

At the range I had much better results shooting my AR that has plagued me a couple weeks ago. Here's what I did.....

I first cheaned the chanber using an ar brush designed for the task. Then I took apart the BCG and recleaned and oiled the bolt heavily including the gas rings. Everything worked much more smoothly working the bold back and forth.

When I hit the range I took with me a couple boxes of PMC "Target", PMC "Bronze" (what was left from the last visit), American Eagle "Tactical" and lastly a box of Federal "XM193" ammo.

During shooting I first started with the PMC "target" and found to my surprise the rifle shot reliably on very shot fired and ejected with no issues what so ever!!

Then I proceeded to shoot the American "Tactical" ammo second and that shot reliable and ejected properly and may I add the rifle ycled smoothly using these two brands samples so far.

After this I decided to try the unreliable PMC "Bronze" ammo and right away the rifle began to jam again! Got a goos laugh out of it and just stopped using this junk of ammo.

Lastly I shot a box of the Federal "XM193" ammo and once again it shot super reliable with no hang-ups at all.

All in all I'm a happy camper this time around and why I wonder about that PMC "Bronze" ammo??? Why this ammo when the same brand but named "Target" shot so good?? Any guesses guys/gals?

Tomorrow I give my girl a good cleaning and oiling and get ready to shoot/test another AR. I guess I won't use PMC "Bronze" ammo for a while cuz unless I got a bad lot I can't say. Otherwise this CMMG upper seems to prefer hot ammo.

                Good to hear!

Try a few hundred more rounds of .556 like XM 193 to break in and loosen things up. Put a drop of oil in the exhaust ports to lube the gas rings. Retry the PMC bronze. It *should* be fine.

                    Robert,

I have only three boxes left. The gun shop was only selling them 100 rounds to a customer when buying the chamber brush. Unless I see more ammo like this for less this is considered gold. I'd rather try/use some of my old ammo better. Again if I can fine some PMC "Target" ammo cuz that worked fine without a hitch. I stll hve two more AR's to test out for reliability.
