Will this work for featureless ak build

Wanting to get your thoughts on this. I have an ak fin grip but as you can see it is an underfolder. I can get my thumb around the top of the grip. Does this appear to protrude conspicuously beneath the rifle? What say you?

That looks to me to push it a bit. I like to live on the edge but that's a little too close for me personally

First of all the rifle looks awesome.

Secondly, just about every grip wrap I've installed on other than fixed stocked has left a small gap. You could theoretically get a small thumb through there but I personally feel like the rifle would qualify as featureless. You would have to contort your grip to a sporter style high thumb to do it, making it completely different from a pistol grip type grasp.

      Just my .02

Doesn't matter if you can get your thumb around it, that's not what you have to worry about.

pistol grip has a definition beyond protrusion...

The definition of a pistol grip goes beyond just conspicuously protruding below the action of the firearm.

It is a grip that allows you to grasp behind the grip with the web of your hand at or below the top of the exposed trigger.

I stole this quote from one of the CA compliant grip manufacturers:

CA 11 CCR 5469(d) says "pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon" means a grip that allows for a pistol style grasp in which the web of the trigger hand (between the thumb and index finger) can be placed below the top of the exposed portion of the trigger while firing.

I can see that your grip does show a little tiny bit of daylight between the top of the exposed trigger and the top of the grip. If it were me, I would fill that gap with a little bit of kydex cut to shape and riveted to the top of the MM fin on the opposite side of my dominate hand.

But I'm cheap, and would want to minimize my risk of the California DOJ finding somebody with orangutan hands that could reach the trigger while the web of the hand was back there. Lawyers are expensive, kydex and rivets are not.
            "don't be that guy"...

Makes sense. This grip was cut for my other ak. I'll look into adding kydex or a different fin grip. Or maybe I just need another ak to,use my preban drum!

Perhaps you could reinstall the original grip with a wrap that extended above the lower line of the stock. No one at that point could reasonably say that you could take a pistol-style grasp with the web of the thumb below the top of the trigger, unless the tester were an orangutan or alien freak.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!
