    Recommend me some rail covers

Below is a picture of my new StagArms 2TL. It has a sampson star-c quad rail.

I had ordered some Knights Armament rail covers/foregrip, not really knowing what I was getting into as this is my first AR.

It seems like I'd have to disassemble the entire rail to slide the covers I have now on there because of the forward sight post mostly (the strap mounts look easy to take off if that was the only issue).

Are there better rail covers out there? Maybe some that snap on instead of slide on? And anyone have a fore-grip they really like? I've got the rubberized hogue grip and something with that texture might be nice for the fore-grip too (though the magpul one seemed a bit stubby).

Thanks for the advice, as always.

The KAC rail covers will work perfectly with the Samson rail (sides and bottom). The KAC cover has a metal tab that locks into the last slot on the Samson rail. I have a 10" Samson rail on my featureless Stag. For the top rail, I use the low profile ladder rail covers (essentially rubber bumpers).

That said, it sounds like you might want to look into the Magpul or LaRue Tactical rail covers. Those snap on.

    Cheers.

the magpul xtm or rail ladders would work if your rail is obstructed from front and back

Yup. I have those as well. I need to find the short ones unless you cut them down.

+1 on the xtm covers. Very nice. Also suggest checking out the ergo ladder rail covers. It is not a complete cover but just takes the edge off the rails and gives it a nice uniform look.

Thanks fellas! I've been thinking about those magpul XTMs, I really like the look of the knights armament but not sure about dealing with the pain in the butt to pull the rail off just to slide covers on...

Does anyone know if the Magpul XT full length covers snap over the rail or slide on? Hard to tell in the pics and I read different things in descriptions depending on the site.

They snap on over the rail. You can also mix and match colors to give you diffrent patterns.

i havent seen the full length XT rails in person, but if it is made with the same material as the ranger plates (that wierd magpul semi-rubbery stuff), it should be pliable to snap over a rail. if it is hard polymer, you will need to slide it on the rail.

Most of them are short ones, but I did cut down one to fit in front of the KAC handstop.

I'd recommend a new rail. Why run a bulky quad rail if your not using the real estate? You could sell that rail for a good price and pick up a nice smooth rail with some small rail sections on the front end. The quad rails with KAC covers make for a really bulky forend.

I use the magpul ladders. They will keep your rail from becomming bulky, they're cheap, the rubber material provides a great grip, and they can be cut to size.

Yeah they're not as glamorous as other covers but they work and that's what I'm about is just basics that work.
