    Rhineland Arms .22

Hey guys I need opinions!!!! I was looking into this rifle. I didnt even know they existed before this site. I really like the looks of the rifle. I went to the web site and found out there coming with a new one. Its basically the same rifle, but a few changes. It has a different style handguard, a fake suppressor and sights!!! Does anyone know if they are already selling this specific model? Also does anyone have one? Are they too have for a plinking gun? I dont want it for a target rifle. How is it's cycling? Does it function well? Or should I just be happy and content with my 10/22? Let me know. All your opinions count!!! Thanks!!!!

I don't own one or have handled one. I did however observe one at the range a few weeks back. Jammed 1 out of every 10 rounds using various different mags and ammo.

      Something to think about.

I read a very gentle review of this gun in shotgun news. It is pretty cool, but it has a major design issue, in my opinion. When the 22 lr goes off, it needs to not only push back a recoil spring strong enough to feed the next round, but the gun uses standard ar 15 fire control parts, so the little 22 needs to cock an ar hammer while still compressing the recoil spring. The gun in the review had feeding issues too.

The .17 HMR round worked the action well, but only one of the two rounds of hmr made was safe... CCI and Speer both make hmr and they are using the same case and round, so the pressure from the powder made the difference. The higher pressure round left the chamber before all the powder burned and part of the casing stuck in the shooters arm, as I recall...

It seems like a really cool gun, maybe a lower power hammer spring in the 22's, and a stronger recoil spring in the 17's are in order.

I just wonder about a standard ar 15 fcg and blowback operated weapons...

        (Just buy the 10/22)

I believe th eproblems people were having with the 2nd generations was with the bolt. Supposedly all 3rd generations have a new bolt design. the above link chronicles a fellow calguns members problems with the 2nd gen. I just got a 3rd generation, it should be able to pick it up in a week. I'll let you know how it shoots, and post a range report. Do a search for the r22 here on calguns, it may be cheaper just to upgrade your 10/22 with other stocks, etc.

QuickontheDraw (and everyone else) - that link you posted is my rifle.

You have to understand that when I first got the rifle it was barely functional so the one out of every 10-20 that I'm seeing now is phenomenal as far as I am concerned. I haven't really updated lately (except that I found some different supposedly better mags here in Orlando) but when I last shot I was very pleased with the performance...I did many high speed mag dumps at 75yds (on target, I might add) and it did that pretty well...I think I probably had 10 full mag dumps without any failures. This was with BC Hotlips mags, probably all of which have close to 100rds through them, if that. I have been told the SteelLips mags function better so I am going to be bringing home two of those with me today to try out this week (amazingly United told me that I can carry them on no problem), maybe with a loader. Currently all my issues are failure to properly eject. LIke I said though, it's been getting better. I'm still breaking the rifle in.

I bought the RA R22 because I wanted something different and now that it's fixed up with the new bolt I'm pretty pleased with it - it's my first rifle. My coworkers with stock 10/22s still have problems with their rifles as well so it's not just confined to the R22. The Third Generation (I have now what'd be a 2nd and a half gen) incorporates further improvements.
