    Saiga Conversion- Potential Problem :-/

I want to keep the bolt hold open so I was grinding the side of my hammer that the pin goes through.

The stock Saiga hammer's "leg" thing is ~8.25mm long. I cut mine to 7.25mm or so.

Is that ok? or will it cause problems?

I've never done that. What I did was filed down the actual button for the bolt hold open, so when pressed it is practically flush with the receiver and when not pressed it is not obnoxious. Not sure what the potential issues are with grinding the hammer.

Does everything still fit together after you reassemble?

I wouldn't worry about it. One of my Saigas has a modified hammer and doesn't even have a bolt hold open installed anymore.

Oh sorry, I remember now that when I bought my conversion trigger group it was pre-modified from Carolina shooters supply, I believe so there wouldn't be a problem using the bolt hold open. I'd find the exact link to what I picked up, but their website is down due to excessive panic buy ordering.

Will this work on a saiga conversion?

I filed my hammer for the bolt hold open. I believe a lot of people do that in order to keep it, just make sure you don't take to much off.

You got cheap and bought a $25 generic G2 trigger for your conversion. If you had spent another $15 for a properly modified trigger group, you wouldn't be asking these questions.

I'm beginning to suspect you're trying to convert a Saiga 308. Those need to have the disconnector specially modified to work. Do some more research, spend a few more dollars on the right parts and save you and everyone within ear shot of your workshop/garage a lot of pissing and moaning.

              Look here: http://www.dinzagarms.com/misc_parts/fcg.html

Talk to Brian at Dinzag, he helped me with all my conversion needs.
