Legalities surrounding AR15 Rifle to Pistol lowers??

Hey have a quick question. i have both a complete AR15 dros'd as a longgun, and an AR pistol lower dros'd as a pistol.

anyways....the AR pistol lower is a vulcan v15, which i just learned isnt good quality.

now i want to swap out lowers since i really like the upper/barrel on the AR pistol. i know that directly swapping a short barrel onto my AR rifle lower is illegal....

is there anyway to convert or re'dros a rifle lower to pistol, what exactly is the difference here.

its hard to find decent AR pistol lowers that arent vulcan or aero precision....is it possible to buy a noveske lower and have it dros'd as a pistol?

im so confused by all these damn legalities, please shine a light on this for me! thanks

btw anyone wanna buy a vulcan v15 pistol lower lol...

Your rifle lower is not a registered pistol lower therefore therefore it was transferred on a CA DROS as a Long Gun and the receiver is not on the California Roster of Approved Handguns. You are pretty much SOL. Use your pistol lower, if it breaks, it breaks.

"Once a rifle, always a rifle." Nope, no way to pull a switcheroo.

Aero Precision lowers are good stuff, BTW. Their regular business is aerospace machining, hence the name, and they make lowers for several big-name, highly regarded brands.
I meant, it is my opinion that...

As per more recent (and always changing) atf opinions the "once a rifle" thing is not exactly the case anymore, the biggest and first problem is CA law.

The BATFE NFA Branch letter addressed a handgun being temporarily made into a rifle and then made back to it's original handgun form.
The letter also stated that if the firearm started as a rifle and then made into a handgun, that it would be a SBR and not a handgun.

Doesn't Aeroprecision use same lowers as Noveske? They do for Armalite too I believe.

Is it legal for an 07 FFL to buy the ar rifle from you, re-assemble as a single-shot ar pistol, and dros it back to you?

No. The FFL can't violate CA law with impunity any more than an individual can. Once assembled as a rifle in CA, it cannot be reassembled as a pistol.

I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!
