    First Time Buyer

Hi I am looking to get a rifle specifically the DPMS AP4. And it seems that every gun store that I have visited so far is out of stock of any AR-15s. I don't know how the processes of ordering rifles work so if anyone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

Ask the person at the LGS what it would take for them to order your DPMS. With just about everything gone, that will be an interesting question...Expect delivery sometime this spring, if you're lucky.

Wouldn't the manufacturers have them in stock? How does this process work?

Many rifles are spoken for via pre-orders before they even reach the retailers right now. Your best bet is to get on a waiting list.

^This. You picked a bad time to go AR shopping, bud.
There is no justification for the public servant police to be more heavily armed than the law-abiding public they serve...Unless...the government's intention is to be more powerful than the people.

Good luck putting a deposit, or getting anything in the next few months, unless you want to pay up $$$$$.

If you are in the Bay Area(NorCal),check Marin County Firearms in Novato.
I saw a DPMS AR in there.Don't know the exact model though. But,like everyone said, expect to pay top $$$.They have at least 4 AR's there earlier.S&W,KD's,DPMS.

There is tremendous panic buying going on right now because of Sandy Hook and subsequent proposed AWB by Feinstein. Whatever stock retailers had is mostly gone at this point. And I would suspect that whatever Mfg's have coming out is probably already spoken for for quite some time.

As others have said, I would suggest talking to your shop and see what they have to say about wait times. You could also try calling the mfgs directly and seeing what they have to say.

Purchase process should be pretty straight forward. If you buy direct from the Mfg, they will ship to your shop. The shop will handle the paperwork for you. They will likely charge you sales tax and a transfer fee...anywhere from $25-$150...usually. You can ask them what they charge and/or shop around for a lower fee.

                    Good luck!

Right now is the worst time to try and get in to the AR game, panic buyers have driven up prices and people are still buying whatever they can get their hands on. One shop here in SD is selling a Colt 6920 for $3k.
