    AK-47 Build help

    I have a Nodak Spud-7 receiver for a AK47 Romanian build.

I have a parts kit, but the trunnions don't seem to fit.

Any suggestions on how I should proceed? Should I widen the receiver for the trunnions?

This is my first AK47 build.

You have a thicker RPK receiver and are trying to stick the wrong trunnion in it.

    Model NDS-7

    Romanian RPK Receiver caliber 7.62x39

I've done this in the past by having a machine shop shave off the sides of the trunnion until it fit and then applied the hammer of adjustment for final adjustment.

Or you could find an RPK trunnion somewhere.

    Good luck.

You need a NDS-1 for that kit

Or pick up one of these, and sign up for your local build party.

Standard 7.62 Flat for fixed stock Romy G parts kits as well as other 7.62 rifles with 1mm receivers.

I believe the trunnions I have are Romanian.
Are they not? Are there specific trunnions that will fit the NDS-7 without machining?

          Thanks, Peter AI6PG

If you want to use the NDS-7 you should get a RPK kit. The NDS-1 is for a fixed stock AKM which is what you have.

Thanks. I just purchased a flat on eBay.
Why does nodak spud list the NDS-7 as Rommy compatible?

                  Thanks for your help.
                  Sigh.

                    From the NODAK website

                    Model NDS-7
                    Romanian RPK Receiver caliber 7.62x39
The new version will have mag dimples to replicate the earlier guns.
                    Model NDS-1

"Premium" AKM receiver. Fits all AKM 7.62x39 parts kits
(Russian, Romanian, Polish, Hungarian, East German, Bulgarian, Egyptian)
Because there are no trunion holes pre-drilled, you can adapt this receivers to many uses.
The variant you are building is more important than the country of origin when choosing a flat/receiver (unless it's a yugo).

I would recommend getting an AK builder flat if you are going that route. It's a lot more work starting from a flat than a Nodak and they build the best flats.

                    Good luck

Because the Romanians made RPKs as well.

You don't need a new flat, as others mentioned you can have your AKM trunnions fitted to work in your RPK receiver.

The RPKs are cool. Longer, heavier barrel and bipod.

If you build one you can just skip installing the pistol grip and you are all set for a featureless build. Designed for firing from the prone or off a rest anyway so it doesn't really affect the feel of the weapon.

Sorry, the video has a folding stock. Pure unobtainium as is the carry handle and a 23 inch cleaing rod. And the full auto thing, but aside from that...

                          Thank guys.

Looks like I need an RPK kit for my existing receiver.
The RPK is cool. Maybe in the end I can end with an AK and RPK.
                          Here's hoping.

                          excellent overview of RPK

Let me know if you can find one at a reasonable price. With all thats going on I wish I wouldn't have passed up on so many deals.
