Sigh... unfortunately that seems to be the case. You'd think that they'd want to know all the little details and nuances of the law lest they be inadvertently caught up in it. And they the nerve to cast aspersions on those who do want to know and understand their rights and where the lines are drawn.

Another interesting claim this guy made was that even in your own home you had to use a cable (not a trigger) lock... Even if locked in a safe or other strong box, behind 10ft of concrete. Yes, I'm liable if a minor gains access to the weapon and carries it off property or does somthing stupid. So if I have a gun for protection in my own home... "hang on mr. intruder, I need to get my gun from the safe, unlock the breech cable, load a few rounds... Ok, now I can protect myself and family". Right.

The only thing gun shop employees need to know, is what keeps them out of jail. For the most part, even employees only do as they're told by the owner or whoever it is with the FFL that doesn't want to lose it, which can often include a lot of paranoid FUD to try and ensure dumb employees don't screw things up(like the 90 minutes of paperwork, approvals, and BS at targetmasters, or shops with 11 day waiting periods, etc.).

If you do it yourself, no not really. However I'd certainly not assemble the rifle or go to the range until it's done. If you have it done, from what I understand you cannot legally give it to any old engraver since you're transferring to an unlicensed individual. That is why as long as it's still just a chunk of metal, have it engraved, stamped, marked or whatever.

Wow asking about the legality of something and you are already advising on it in your own thread, you're fast!

You can have completed ones engraved, you just have to have it done while you are there.

I was more or less merely trying to confirm what I already knew and had researched.

Isn't that the same for a normal FFL transferred lower? Suppose you wanted your anniversary date engraved on a Stag, Colt, or Bushmaster lower, you'd still have to be present and cannot just sent it off to "Ed's Trophy Emporium".
