    Sighting in question

When I sight in a rifle, should I get a set of bags to shoot off of or do I not need those? I know a shooting stand would be best but...don't have that kinda cash right at the moment.

Also, sorry if this is in the wrong area.

Anything like sand bags or something where you can lean your rifle on and to stabilize when you shoot it. This will yield you best results.

    Good luck!

You can use a set of bench bags, sand bags, an ammo can with a towel on top, phone books, basically whatever works for you. All you need is a steady platform to shoot from.

I've rented stands before to sight in my hunting rifles, granted this was when I lived in Alaska, but I'm sure some of the ranges around you have them to rent. Or start at say 25-50 yds n gradually move out further.

You're better of with a $400 .308 unless you plan on taking out taliban from 2000 yards away haha

My poor man way has worked 40 years, when my sand bags were not close.Turn my scabbard or backpack sideways and pile my coat on top.

I pull the bolt out if possible, yea ARs also.Bore sight the scope to the barrel at 200 yds on say a 8" target or rock. Then like crazyal suggested start the shooting at 50 yds.The bore sight you did first will have you on paper. If you get the right to left adjusted to center. Then work the up and down to get close to the center of the reticle.Count the clicks on the scope adjusters.Usually requires only 3-4 shots. You will be high at 100yds,but pretty close at 200yds,depending on caliber you shoot. Then fine tune for what you want for zero at the given distance you pick.I prefer 2.5-3.0" high at 100yds for hunting purposes.

Sandbags are good, but IMHO it's not for sighting in your scope.

For sighting in, you need to be repeatable. For a sandbag, it is too soft. Every shot cannot be repeated because the bag will move. For sighting in, I prefer something harder, like a rifle stand.

Once sighted in to your satisfaction, use the sandbag for practice.
