    Magpul CTR Question for AR

I have a Mgpul CTR on my colt. I really like the look of it but when I put it on there is a lot of play "movement" for what I like in the stock when on. Is there a way to tighten it up or is this just how tight the stock and and some movement is involved? Have any of you experienced this? I shoot and keep the stock out fully extended but when I colapse it it seems to move less. If I cant fix this I guess Im buying another stock.... Any advice would help, Thank You.

First question: are you positive your buffer tube and stock are both mil-spec?

Do you engage the friction lock? Do you have the right stock for your buffer tube? I.e. mil-spec vs. Commercial?

Yes I do, my colt is straight from the factory and is the magpul edition.

Is it actually a CTR or maybe just an MOE? I have three CTRs and when the friction lock is on, there is no play at all. I have heard that the MOE, which doesn't have a friction lock, do have some play in them, but I do not have one to confirm.

The colts come with the MOE version. You want to get the CTR version. Check to see which buffer tube is on your rifle first before ordering. The CTR has the extra lock to take away the loose fit feeling
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

              Colt always uses Mil-Spec tubes.

I have a very simple trick I did to my tube and it removed all the wobble and still slides smooth.

Extend the stock all the way, make a small oil mark with an oily toothpick where your stock covers.

Take a 1/8th by 2" strip of packing tape and stick it to the side of the "Spine" of the tube. Repeat on other side. Stack them up until the wobble is almost gone. Then stick a 1/4 inch x 2-1/4" piece over that. The edge of the top layer are lower than the bottom layer and won't roll up and cause a problem. Perfect fit , if a tad low tech.

As mentioned, colts come with a MOE stock not a CTR stock. CTR stocks, STR stocks, ACS-L are some of the stocks that offer the friction lock.

Yes it is the MOE stock, yall are correct I was wrong. Thanks for all the feed back everyone. Most of you mentioned that the CTR and others have a friction lock on them? So another lock to make all of the play go away? How you yall like them?

Don't know about other Magpul stocks but the CTR does have the lock. I had a CTR on my M4 for 13 months in Afghanistan and it never failed. Well worth it.

Use blue masking tape on the tube, one layer is a perfect fit to tighten the stock up with no wiggle
Can post pics if you need.

Well you're not going to get a more valuable opinion than from someone who actually carries it around in Afghanistan.

With my background, I can confirm it is also worth it for the monthly range trip and playing commando in your home in your underwear.

I did the tape on it and it works, great idea. I also went on amazon and ordered a CTR. Thanks Everyone.
