I called around without much luck. Clothey & sons said they might if I bring it in. My backup was a competent machine shop in the area, or giving it a whirl myself.

I don't know if Don Gussler does that type of gunsmithing, but he could probably direct you to someone if he doesn't.

        He's in Santee.

San Diego FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee), We also sell & repair guns! Gussler's guides our clients through the process of purchasing or selling a firearm.

I don't do bolt fluting, but I can install your bolt knob for you. I do this regularly for several local SF Bay Area gun shops, as well as tactical and precision rifle, and F class shooters. Install heat treated reinforce screw at bolt handle root (as per Greg Tannel at Gre-Tan rifles), and thread handle. 1 week turn around. I am in Santa Cruz area.
          Thanks,
          Ken

Probably get it done at Duncan's gunsmiths in San Marcos but be prepared to wait a long time...they are always backed up...do good work and that's why they are backed up...I've not found any good gunsmiths in San Diego...several like Gussler that know gunsmithing but are primarily transfer and paperwork "mills" and the gun repairs take a back seat....and work is limited...I wanted to have a rifle headspace checked and Gussler said he didn' t have the gauges...but he can do a trigger job on a smith or ruger but sort of on his time...we need a good reliable gunsmith in San Diego but I haven't found any. I think El Cajon Gun Exchange might advertise one part time but I don't shop there any more at all. Santee Wholesale guns (now out of business) had a decent smith (he was the owner and his wife ran the store) but gone now...Discount on Morena may have a smith but the Santee location does not.

Learn to work on your own guns then you dont have to rely on someone to butcher them!

I second Duncans in San Marcos, I wouldn't trust anyone else. They are an old school shop and know what they are doing. However, like opos said be prepared to wait it took 3 months for them to get to my repair and when I picked it up they still had a 2 month back log.

Sniper's Hide has quite a few smiths that advertise and do exactly what your looking to have done on a daily basis. You may want to check that out as I feel a little more confident having someone that does that sort of thing every day as opposed to someone that only does it here and there.

Just order the bolt you want from pacific tool and gauge as they make fluted bolts. Duncan's is good but will take forever.

I mean, what was I supposed to do? The rotary table, mill, and lathe were just sitting there, and I had an AR barrel in my hand that was clearly too heavy...

You could use Paul in Idaho. Does nice work. Also does bolt knobs. http://proprecisionrifles.com/boltfl...ery/index.html

If you do go with KenDog here, he'll take good care of you.
