    California Legal AK

Oh boy, don't even know where to start! Was hoping there would be a pinned topic for building one or even where to start! Just wanted to know what all of you think. Nice meeting everyone, trying to get a rifle into my household before anything bad happens.

I am currently reading the FlowChart, OLL, and the ban list of assault rifles to quickly educate myself! Seems like there is a huge panic and selling out everywhere...I must live under a rock!

    Thanks again!

Start reading the gunsmith forum. Lots of info on AKs and builds.

yes on the gunsmith forum, also the sticky by 69mach1 on how to build an AK.

your best bet is to attend a build party in your area. there is one in SD early next month IIRC.

you'll need to decide on what caliber you want, AKs come in 3 basic flavors: 7.62, 5.45 or 223. you'll also need your 922r compliance parts, receiver (or flat) and barrel.

      good luck!

Hey bud, not to pee in your cornflakes, but your first rifle should probably not be an AK build that you do yourself. I would advise you to pick up a saiga in 7.62. That will be a cheap and effective AK style rifle that is a good place to start your gun collection.

Any AK you can get your hands on at a gun store in California is Ca. Legal!
In addition, many online stores sell Ca. Legal Aks, such as Atlantic Firearms.

But good luck getting your hands on one ...

I have definitely come to terms that I am not experience, nor educated enough to build from ground up. I wanted the non-registered version to make sure no government could take it away if we ever get to that point, but I will do that. Thank you for the advice marksman, I will look into the saiga, any help is appreciate so peeing in cornflakes..is all good!

You don't have to register long guns until 2014.
