    Red Dot vs Scope

Since I am pretty new to this sport, pardon my question.

I have a basic understanding of the usage of a scope since I have one on my .22. Basically use it to hunt/plinking at a distance beyond what I could shoot with using iron sights.

A red dot seems to facilitate target aquisition, however does it provide any similar features like that of a scope like zooming in or greater distance?

Looking at purchasing a Hi Point 995 (we can discuss that purchase later) and am trying to decide if I would want to add either feature.

Any other info I need to know?

    Thank you all.

No, red dots are not magnified, but some come with screw on magnifiers. Some buy separate magnifiers to go behind the red dot. If you want something magnified, I would go with a 1-3 or 1-4 scope.

based on what you said, looks like a 1-4x power scope is your best bet. gives you a little of both worlds.
