    M1A flash suppressor question

my M1A was built in 1983 . it came with the M 14 style flash suppressor with the bayonet fixture on it. during the assault weapon ban the last owner installed a required flash suppressor with many holes in it for some law. is it true after the ban was lifted i am able to re install the correct M -14 style flash suppressor my rifle was built with again. is the 20 round mags that i have illegal in calif. i do not mind buying a 10 round mag i just hate to waste 3 GI 20 round mags with military covers on them. thanks

No you can not re-install the original flash suppressor. It would make it an assault weapon.
As for the 20 round mags, they are not ill-eagle to have in possession or use if they were acquired before the ban.

You can install the flash hider with slots if you install a magazine lock. But that takes away the beauty of being able to drop mags or use high capacity mags you own prior to the ban. Unless you want to drop in a SAGE EBR stock, I would leave it as is.

unless you put a mag lock on your rifle, yeah you can put back that suppressor.
BUT - you can not use your 20-round mag anymore. you got to buy 10 round mags.

keep it featureless then detachable mag 20 or 30 mags you have in possesion prior to 2000 is still good to use.

You had to have registered it as an AW when the ban hit to run a flash suppressor without a mag lock

Many holes in it sounds like a muzzle brake not a hider. Please post a picture of it so we can help make the right call.

Its probably has the compensator? Thats on most Cal M1a's

Those things are god awful loud

Youll need to keep that, or something non-flash hider, to use the standard cap magazines

You can have a slotted suppressor or a bayonet lug. Not both.

ETA: Forgot where I was. No flash suppressor. Not unless you fix the magazine in place.

Whaaaa? Bayo lug is not a qualifier for AW. Suppressor or hider is= running a mag lock and 10 round mags.

There is a lot of tard in this thread. It is very simple. You must have a muzzle break installed on it, not a flash suppressor. You can use your 20 round magazines in it unless it has a mag lock, which it probably doesn't. Just look at the current CA compliant M1As made by SA for validation of this. In summary: no mag lock, muzzle break, 20 round mags. The end.

Bayonet lug is not a CA evil feature. That was part of the Federal 94 AW law. Irrelevant now in CA.

Well as I said earlier, I would install a Smith Enterprise adapter, and then you can use any muzzle brake you want.

Smith Enterprise Inc. is a veteran-owned Arizona manufacturer of precision firearm components, M14/M1A upgrades, suppressors, and custom rifle systems.
