    Transporting a stripped lower

My apologies to the dupe-police if this one has already been asked; I searched around a bit and didn't turn up anything.

I understand what the laws are regarding transportation of a long gun and a handgun, but where do they draw the line for a stripped lower? Legally, it is a firearm, so I assume I should have it in a locked case, (my trunk does not lock from the inside, and I do have to pass through two gun-free school zones to get it from the FFL to my house) but I haven't had much luck in finding a definite answer.

This will be my first AR platform weapon; I get to pick up my lower this Friday evening. (and yes, I've done a LOT of reading and watching of videos regarding the assembly of a complete lower receiver; I'm confident I can manage that part without mucking it up)

It is a controlled part of a fire arm, but it is not a functioning firearm, its not a long gun and its not a pistol, carry it where you want, at least that's my take on it.

no need for a locked case as long as it cant shoot, id consider it a part and nothing else... the law may say otherwise...

I do not think it is considered a firearm as a stripped lower, it is just the part you have to dros. once you put all the LPK I would recommend you put bullet button on it. I threw mine on the front seat in the box. If I were to be pulled over with firearms or stripped receiver I would not volunteer any info to LEO about my firearms in the vehicle, and never had one ask to ever search it either. But if you are worried play it safe and put it in the trunk.

I would put a cable lock on it and put it in the trunk. Lol just kidding. Its not functional so you will be ok with just having it on your front seat. I ain't no lawyer though so take my advice lightly.

Well I had 8 finished 80% lowers fresh from the anodizer sitting in a box on the passenger seat of my car when I got pulled over for expired registration/ plates. Cop gave me some hassle, down right hostile to be honest, over them not having serial numbers but once another squad car came over and the other officers had some words with him, he let me go with all my property.

Got the car fixed the very next day.

80% are not yet firearms, though how someone who has never seen an 80% would know that is problematic.

If one buys a lower from/through an FFL, that lower is legally a firearm and must be transported as a firearm.

CA has only 'handgun' and 'long gun' - follow the transport regs for one or the other when transporting a stripped lower.
