If I had to pick, I'd say the Axis although none of those are ideal for long range. If anything, spend a bit more and get the fcp10. If you're on a budget, understandable.

The Axis is Savages entry level rifle. The trigger sucks but can be worked on pretty easily. The Trophy hunter is only like $150 more and is a lot better rifle in my opinion. It is built on the model 110 action. It has a better stock and comes with the Accutrigger. The Trophy hunter xp package gun even comes with a Nikon pro staff 3-9x scope for less than $500. Only thing is both of these rifles are meant for hunting and come with sporter type barrels. They will be accurate for the first 3-5 shots then your groups will start opening up. For target shooting off a bench I would choose something with a heavier barrel like the fcp10 also.

I have the axis, and yes the trigger sucks. But, i just installed a new lighter spring and set screw from true value and holy moly what a difference! The pull went from 9 lbs or so to about 3-4. Also there is no pretravel and it now breaks clean. All for about $1.70. The gun already shot sub moa, this should just make it easier! Just my .02.

I'm a big fan of the axis. I have one in .308 and took an antelope this year at 505 yards. You cant beat the value. Just do the hardware store trigger job and tack drive with it. However, as mentioned above, barrel heat will open up groups and has to be considered.

With axis, your way too limited to do upgrades. Wished i waited and got the trophy hunter xp instead.
