    Released on good behavior

    Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

I'm picking up my Daniel Defense M4V3 tomorrow afternoon and will be taking her out to the range for the first time on Sunday.

I've already posted about break-in and received some very good advice.

While I'm not new to shooting AR, this is my very first rifle. I think I've covered my bases as far as what to bring (ammo/clips) etc and have paid close attention to making sure everything I do follows the letter of the law.

My question is. Is there advice you regularly offer someone showing up with a new rifle?

I know the question is a little vague and I'm somewhat fishing for something I may have missed. As you can guess, I'm a little nervous. I've never transported or possessed a firearm before. So please forgive me. I just want to do it right and don't want to make a mistake because I didn't ask.

    Thanks in advance!

    Marty

Leave the clips at home and bring a few extra magazines.

You say that you're not new to AR's but this is your first rifle? You would exercise the same precautions that you would if you were handling a pistol or a shotgun. Do you have any friends or know of anyone that's familiar with AR's and can walk you through everything? An 'AR is no more difficult than most other firearms to handle; I'd say that they're designed to be intentionally simple to use, but just make sure to be careful. The people at the range should help you out if you have any questions. Be safe!

I have experience only with rented rifles. I've never owned. I follow strict safety protocols and yes, I do have a few experienced friends that will be there as well to keep an eye on me.

          Thank you.

Lol one thing to remember when at the range with an AR..
If you get a failure to eject/chamber, do not keep trying to rack it... Drop the mag first....

              Congrats on your first rifle!

The most important thing is to know your firearm. Since you've shot an AR before you know the basics of how it functions, but get to know YOUR rifle. Also be sure to do a function check before heading to the range to make sure everything is Ok.

Do you have a gun case or something to carry it in? If not, you can go as elaborate or simple as you wish. I got a VooDoo case that I really like, some people use a baseball bat bag or even a tennis bag keeping everything incognito (if you have nosy neighbors).

Most importantly, don't keep a loaded mag in the rifle while transporting it to the range.

              Have fun at the range!

Great choice on your new AR, I'm sure you'll love it. The M4v3 was also my first rifle and I've been very happy with it.

I always transport my rifles with the magazine locked in place. I know it's not the law, but in the event of a contact with a LEO, the officer would see the mag is locked into place and would need a tool to remove it. Just a piece mind I guess.

Always make sure all firearms are unloaded when transporting. I always triple check mine before and after use.

My rifles are always locked in a case when transporting because I drive through a few school zones whenever I go shooting.

Always remember the 6 basic safety rules.

                Have fun!

                  Beware of the squib load;

What happened in this video is a projectile didn't make it out the barrel. When the next round was fired it had no where to go and BOOM!

This is a pretty rare occurance, but if you have a round that sounded funny with little recoil then take the bcg out and look down the barrel to make sure that it is clear.

Thank you NorCal9 for the jam advice.

Enfield47, I have an SBK case and will keep ammo, rifle and mags (unloaded) separated.

                    Thanks,

                    Marty

Piece of mind for you, Fear for the Officer & a Possible Gun Pointed at you, possible pair of SHINY BRACELETS too!!!

NOTHING SAYS LOADED & READY TO GO, more than ANY FIREARM with a Magazine in it & CLOSED CHAMBER. DO NOT Travel with Magazine inserted or LOADED Mags, EPIC FAILURE HERE!

Mags/weapon unloaded, Rifle in a locked case/container. Trust me on this one, Get checked & upset an Officer, you`ll LOSE the benefit of the Doubt or the Ability to explain your carry condition.

Travel Safely, go have some Fun!!!
