    Banned By Name?

So one of my grandparents has a MAC 90 and I was hoping to get the rifle from him, but then I found the Kaliforniastan banned by name list. As fate would have it I saw "MAC 90" on the list. @#$%! Is there anyway to legally own a Norinco MAC 90 Cali, like exceptions to the law or pre ban dates?? I have not lost hope on this since I really want a free AK

Also a side question. Is there any restrictions on owning an "assault weapon" under 21?
    Thanks

If its a long gun you can legally own it but if its on the ban list you cannot have it transferred into your name if your grandparent lived here and owned that weapon before the ban had taken place they can legally own it. Maybe one of the more experienced members here will chime in and tell you the exact law

Mk. Its on the cali banned list. He has had it for at least 20-25 years, so I am wondering if there is any law allowing me to own/transfer it to my name.

Only If the Grandparents owned and registered it before the ban in CA thay can own it legally but it can not be transfered in CA.The only way it can be transfered is if it is broken down to a parts kit and a new receiver is used in or out of state.

Correct info above and if you end up bringing it "here" as a parts kit contact NDS or look up Hector at Elk River Tool & Die a call. At one time he was making some nice 1.6mm receivers that fit the Mak perfectly.

Had to rebuild a Mak90 I had from 1992 that I never registered when i had the chance.

Thanks for the info. I am mostly into C&R, so this is my first intro to the AK world. Are you saying that a stock NDS receiver wont fit a MAC 90?

No, it won't. If it's milled, you'll need to track down a milled receiver, if it's stamped Chinese rifles use a much thicker gauge of sheet metal than the standard AKM pattern, among other things.

Ok, I am pretty sure its stamped. Is there a receiver you recommend?

Wouldn't 922r come in to play when building this as a parts kit?

                      Here is a handy calculator.

No. There is no need to register a homebuild at all. Also, if you build it featureless, there is no need for a magazine lock. BTW, 922 has NOTHING to do with CA AW laws.

I would sway you from destroying the mac 90. Sell it out right then buy complete or buy a kit. These are not being imported any longer and destroying the receiver just takes one more out of circulation... I'm going to go cry now...
