All the Chinese SKS are looking on the rough side but on the C&R forum they clean nice and the bore is good. Not bad for a old war horse.

Thinking about a CHINA SKS....thoughts?

I don't know what some of the other posters above have been seeing, but the 2 of these that I personally examined at Faith Armory in Temecula were clean, solid, good condition guns. A little wear on the original 1959 bluing and the wood was a little rough with some scratches and wear to the original 1959 shellac or whatever the finish on them is. A little careful cleaning - none of that stupid "sand 'em down and slap a thick ugly coat of pimp-shine snot on 'em" Bubba schitt, and these would be some fine looking rifles indeed.
Not trust your life to them? You gotta be kidding me! These things are build like Pamela Anderson and as solid and reliable as a T34 tank. I have a Viet Nam bring-back Chinese SKS (early spike bayonet model, made around either 1967 or 1969 - forget which offhand) that has been one of my "reach for" weapons since 1970.
I can't speak for Turners - maybe they paid less for the lowest grade ones. I've seen a few photos of a couple really rough ones other folks got from the various wholesalers and other dealers that look like some of the really trashed out looking VC weapons from Viet Nam. But I bet their chrome lined bores are just fine and they are solid and accurate shooters.
The really sad thing about these rifle, as I see it, is that a lot of them are going to end azzed up by the same toothless, drooling, albino, moronic, livestock molester, Bubba's that ruined a lot of the nice Russian and Chinese SKS's that were available back in the 1980's and 1990's. Crappy plastic stocks. POS scopes with either holes drilled in the receiver or the original top covers thrown away and replaced with those junk scope mount ones. Bayonets gone. Heavily sanded and stupid camo paint jobs. In other states, big stupid "duckbill" magazines hanging off them........I think I'll stop now, before I have to throw up.Comment
