Double stack light mount, do you run one?

Anyone here run a double stack light mount? do you like it? what lights are you using?

I saw it in the Magpul videos a few years ago but looking for reasons other than the "cool" factor before I buy one, otherwise I'll just stick to one.

Do weapon lights break down so often that having a back up mounted to the gun is a good idea?

There's no reason to have two lights on your weapon now. Why because now days there are IR and white light weapon lights in one package.

So lights were purposely turned on at the same time in order to make them stronger?

Some are so light (in weight) that it doesn't hurt. Batteries go out, things break, etc.

Colt, I think what he means is that in the past, those that needed them would have a white light in 1 mount, and an IR illuminator in the other mount. Nowadays, there are lights that are both white light and IR in 1 package. Also most weapon laser systems today have a visible, IR laser, and IR illuminator all in one unit, eliminating the need for a stand alone IR nvg illuminator.

I personally wouldn't put two white lights on my rifle. If I had a need to carry a patrol rifle, I would have 1 weapon mounted light, and a handheld on my vest or belt. Much more versatile.

Yup that's what I meant to say and I also carry a handheld along with all my weapon mounted lights. Not to mention lights now have longer battery life with higher lumen output.

Some of the older incandescent high lumen output lights would have about 20 minutes of light vs about 2 hours now. If you buy a purposely designed weapon light like Surefire my preference or a Streamlight it will be very reliable especially the LED's.
