You kids have it easy now a days... 556 machine guns and tasty MREs... we had to walk up hill both ways to the chow hall, while carrying 30 cal M60s, and those friggen tripods!

Nope, still iron sights at least initially. Once in our units we focused our range time with the ACOGs but still did some iron sight ranges.

Our 240 is almost five pounds heavier than a 60 and we still carry the tripod and spare barrel bag.

Do what I'm doing, building a .300 blackout and have the best of both worlds, an AK cartridge in an AR15 platform, you can't go wrong. And the plus, same bolt, same mags, same buffer and buffer spring. Keep cost down and you have expanded the range with the .300. I've shot 55gr., 62gr., 75gr. and 77gr. 5.56 and pretty much all are accurate up to 200 yards, but now I have the option of a 155gr. to 220gr. from 100 to 300 yards up with better knock down power. Now I don't hunt but if the Zombies roll out, I'll be ready... I'm also reloading my own .300 rounds to keep cost down.. sort of...

But but but...........if a 30cal touches anywhere on the body that person is going down no matter what..............this debate is just like the famous 223 for deer debate........uuurg......only a 300mag is enuff for tiny kalifornia muleys(I never realized the deer here is that powerful to withstand shots from other inferior calibers less than a 300mag)

Out to 100 yards that will be fine. But a 5.56 will do that at 200 or 300 yards.

I am continually amazed t the number of supposed experts and armchair warriors that snub their nose at the 5.56 as not being a good choice for a serious combat weapon.

If they think it inferior, ask them if they'd be willing to be SHOT by it - to test that theory.

I'll give you $100 for every ONE of them who actually goes THROUGH with it!

The 5.56 round was designed to not cause instant death, but casualties. The theory is that be wounding one enemy, at least one or two others will be out of the fight trying to save the wounded one.

sooooo in our reality, we have quite a few supervillian scumbags that can take 20-30+ hits from leo 40sw/45 with HP expanding boolits. But i wonder if ANY OF the rds actually touch the cns? I'm sure if a single 30cal skimmed anywhere on the flesh would cause IMMEDIATE incapacitation.

If i post a link to a graphic photo will it get deleted? If so, then just google "Mexico 5.56 wound". Then tell me that the 5.56 is a useless round. Some people act like they can take a 5.56 and walk away like nothing happened. If you get shot with a 5.56, you're going to be down.

all i can add to this is if somebody says this (choice) is a bad round, ask him how he would be after getting hit by said round.
then ask him his choice of gun, and then load him up with 200 rounds of ammo tell him to hike 20 miles.
