    M4 Hardcase?

I would like to locate a hardcase for my new M4 with an optic. It has a 6 position stock and 18" barrel so it can get pretty small. I would like the case to be lockable becase I live in California and that would help. Airline approved would be nice but not necessary. Last: I would like it to be moderately priced (under $100) with parts available here in the USA. Thanks for your consideration...

If you can stretch your budget I would recommend a pelican case, I think its worth the extra money.

If not then you might want to look at the Plano cases:

I can sell you some broken leupold rings from my last hunting trip where the airline & TSA helped

They opened the case and set the scope against the edge of the case.

Pelican is the way to go-
      3 layers of foam

1 layer gets cut to hold the firearm in the correct place in the case

You can buy replacement foam fairly cheap

This gives you another three piece to cut for different configurations
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Another vote for Pelican. They're worth the money and will last you a lifetime. Buy once/Cry once and all that.

You also don't want to skimp when it comes to protecting your firearms...assuming that you really do need a hard case. Hard cases can be overkill in a lot of situations. And there's no doubt that they are heavier and bulkier.

FYI...These guys usually have decent prices and they offere a "closed cell" foam option which doesn't hold moisture like open cell may. I also find it easier to cut than the open cell stuff.

I have Pelican cases for pretty much all of my guns, especially the ones I plan on flying with. If they are good enough to take our gear overseas in, they are tough enough to keep the TSA out of my stuff.

every now and then you can snag a nice pelican 1750 for $150 off the classifieds here. i would save up another $50 and hold out for one. It'll be a worthy investment.
