Trigger Group Question - Is this legal?

I am wanting to build an M16A4gery and I ran across a three burst trigger group. Is this legal to install on an AR here in CA? I know the the lower wouldn't have a happy switch position, unless it is custom engraved (probably won't do that though). But I am kind of intrigued if I can legally install this trigger group or not. It would make for a more authentic rifle, and have cool factor of knowing there aren't many of these on the market, but I don't want to end up in jail over it just because it could conceivably shoot three shots with a single trigger pull.

    Here is the description:
Original USGI M16A2 three round burst fire control parts.

The set includes the burst trigger, two disconnector springs, three shot burst cam, burst cam spring and the semi & burst disconnectors.
The parts are in very good condition.

All parts are sold for replacement purposes only.
We sell NO parts or spare parts sets to convert guns to full automatic or 3 shot burst.

^^^ says it right there, NFA controlled item. No go unless you think you can get a dangerous weapons permit then pay tax stamp.

Can you go over the thought process that made you think that this could be a good thing.

How maybe you'd found something that everybody else had missed since 1968?

Not legal to install & you can't unless the 3rd hole is drilled. Drilling the 3rd hole turns your once legal semi-auto lower into an illegal unregistered machine gun. CA & ATF takes unregistered machine gun cases very seriously. The Federal penalty starts at 10 years & $10,000 for each NFA offense.

If you really want a full auto AR-15 move to a free state & buy a RDIAS (Registered Drop In Auto Sear) or Lighting Link. Do not buy an unregistered Pre 1981 DIAS. Possession of those with any M-16 fire control parts or an AR-15 lower, is possession on an unregistered machine gun.

If you can't afford a registered machine gun, move to a free state & buy a Hell Fire or other trigger attachment. Those are also illegal in CA.

If you just want a non functioning fun switch, something like that may be legal. Smith Ent. makes one for the M-14. No idea if someone makes them for an AR-15. Having one in CA might cause some hard looks from LE though.

Just make sure your groups are so tight you put all 3 rounds in 1 hole and no one will know the difference

In CA, mere possession of a M16 FCG (Fire Control Group) is the same as possessing a MG. [PC 16880(b)]

                    Penal Code 16880
                    (b) The term "machinegun" also includes the frame or receiver of any weapon described in subdivision (a), any part designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machinegun, and any combination of parts from which a machinegun can be assembled if those parts are in the possession or under the control of a person.
