    Sighting in an AK

Ok so I'm going to the range on Friday to help sight in my cousins AK. We're going to sight it in at 50 to get that 50/200 yard zero. My question (and sorry if it's noobish) is since it's sighted it for 200 do I raise the elevation to the "2" mark? Just making sure, don't want to waste ammo and gas.

    Thanks.

Get an ak sight tool. And yes the number is x100 for yards. When I got my saiga rifle the sights were off so I had to adjust the frount sight with the tool.

Soundz like fun. It's a twist and push adjustment. Going to have to be or the other though. Walk it up from 50, 100 then 200. You ain't gonna know where to adjust otherwise. Youtube has video on zeroing.

Download the pdf called "ak47 service manual" and it describes the proceedure for zeroing your ak style rifle. #3 sight position @100 meters.
Target is a black rectangle 35cm X 25cm. Aim at center of lower edge and 4 round fired to adjust on.

If its 7.62x39 recomend sighting at 25yards for a rough 100yards zero, then fine tune at 100yards. After that ya should just set yer sights to the correct number an FIRE AWAY!!

Don't forget a hammer or sight pusher for windage!

Once you get it on target just throw it on the battle setting (alll the way down) and hold.

                    AK zero

I always zero my 7.62 x 39 AK's at 25 meters with the rear sight on the 100 mark. This will give you a pretty flat trajectory for that round. Its not the same as the .556 zero.

What? The trajectory for 7.62x39 is like an upside down bowl. I love the round, but it's not know for its flat trajectory.

I would just leave the front sight alone for this trip. Just shoot the thing and see. It might be on already. So in your haste to ZERO you may actually futz it up. New Rifle? Likely already calibrated.

funny thing is I bought a sight adjustment tool for the AK/SKS 20 years ago. Still have not used it.

for the zero you want as a reference. This will give you an idea on the trajectory and the 20 meter or 25 zero thing.

This should help; however I don't know how accurate it is since it should be zeroed in meters not yards.

25 yard zero is better for 200 yard shooting. BBB114 50 yard zero gives a flatter trajectory to the bullet, but can be argued is a less effective battle zero.
