I have a ruger ranch rifle 581 series and was wanting to buy the cheapest ammo that still goes bang to take to the desert in January, I was wanting to get like 1000 rounds to make it worth the 100 mile journey to Barstow. Has anyone used this ammo in their mini 14 581 series, are there a lot of problems with this ammo, should I save a little more and buy surplus

I have a 581 series Mini and I shoot a LOT of steel through it.
There is only one problem that comes up. With some of my mags if they're loaded with the black polymer coated stuff and you release the bolt, it will dig in and jam before the bolt will go into battery. From what I'm seeing the surface on those cases is so rough that they're binding up against each other and stopping the bolt from cycling forward.
It's not that much of a problem actually, remember that on a Mini-14 the bolt carrier, gas piston, charging handle and forward assist are all the same part. Give the charging handle a push and it feeds the stuck round, then it cycles all 10 rounds without any more hiccups. I haven't had this problem with brass-cased ammo, Golden Tiger, Silver Bear or Brown Bear which have a much slicker surface, which is why I think it's an issue with them binding up.Comment

Buy now, before it sells out, if it isn't already!
