Need more platforms for stock featureless/sporter semi autos

Im surprised there haven't been more platforms or innovation in the semi auto market in regards to rifles not having evil features and utilizing standard mag releases. Is the market just higher for locked mags to trick out rifles, or are not enough manufacturers aware that semi auto rifles can still be made with mag releases in CA?

This doesn't just have to be for the CA market either. Does everyone only want a semi auto rifle as long as it has a pistol grip?

I started making a list of stock "featureless" semi auto rifles and came up really short.

    Mini 14
    Kel Tec SU16CA
    M1A
    M1 Garand
    Benelli MR1
    Imported Saigas

    I'm I alone thinking this?

    Pistol grips are more ergonomic.
It pretty much IS just a California problem.
Since you can have a pistol grip in other states, pistol grips are just the easier solution since the ergonomics are better...

The majority of AR enthusiasts will choose a BB equipped normal AR over a featureless build.

It would be just for the California market. Like AR15barrels said, they are more ergonomic than sporter styles.

If you where anywhere other than Kommiefornia would you still be pondering this ?

            FN AR.

Would there be appeal in some of the northeast states? Don't they have a lot of restrictions like in mass and ny?

They can still buy pre-ban stuff unlike us.

Because it's not really practical unless you put a lot of time on the range getting used to your setup.

Look - I shoot a bunch of rifles. But when it comes to the AR, I don't see the point of a featureless build. Why? So I can push that button with one finger? Not worth getting rid of the thumb wrap, the flash hider and the option of a forward grip.

Look, most of us on here are not field "operators". The most action our rifles see is hunting. And if you need more than 10 rounds to take down a pig, you're a ****ty hunter.

I think it's cool that Californians got creative with it. But the result is anything but pleasant. I find it already sad that SCAR owners in this state have to pin their stocks. But look at this sad weapon:
I live in California and I finally converted my California neutered SCAR into a featureless build. I blocked the stock, includes pre-ban mags, and I did my research on the PWS muzzle break not being considered a flash hider. I talked to a DOJ agent and told him exactly what I was doing and he...

See, here is something else than an AR in a featureless build. It's pretty sad-looking.

Oh, add the MAS 49 to your list. The MAS 49/56 can also be easily made featureless by changing the flash hider for a muzzle brake (unless it's one of those rare early versions - and obviously the GL ring needs to come off).

In Ca, anyone wanting a semiauto rifle that they can LEGALLY use as a weapon if they have to , would likely to pick a MINI-14 , MR1 or another rifle that is GTG with any magazine and normal magazine release.

I see no point in an AR in Ca, other than a range gun . I have one and thats all it is for me.

                    Agreed.

You simply should not reach for a mag locked AR when you hear a bump in the night. You would be handing yourself an extreme disadvantage in an ensuing gunfight.

                      Exactly.

An MR1 or a Mini 14 with a STD magazine that You can drop, and reload with another one is WAY better rifle to reach for than a BB AR with a 10 round mag.
