How big is your AR's fireball

I am a satisfied owner of a spiked Ar 15 build with a 14.5" barrel.

    Now to my problem

I have a smith enterprise compensator on my AR and it has been great so far at reducing recoil n keep the " fireball " very small. I recently replaced the gas rings with a 1 piece coiled gas ring and a new extractor spring

I went shooting this weekend and now the fireball out the end of the barrel is MASSIVE. Iv always fired xm193 through my rifle and never had any muzzle signature until now

Could changing a gas ring throw off the timing so all the gas n fireball go down the barrel instead of out of the ejection port?Or could it cause more gas to go down the barrel? Thanks for any help guys

Flash hiders are for keeping the "fireball" small, not compensators and brakes.

Different lighting maybe? Yes, I'm serious. Muzzle flash from a gun is much brighter in the dark(well, duh), and muzzle flash happens very quickly. Maybe you simply weren't noticing it?

Hmm ok thanks guys maybe I just never noticed it. I was up in the mountains in the middle of the forest so it was pretty dark. Might have to throw a flash hider on there so I can't be spotted from mars!

As they said, it probably didn't change anything with your system. You were probably just seeing it because of the situation. If it bothers you, a flash hider is a good solution. Even the A2 Birdcages work fairly well when compared to a brake or compensator.

I had a Cav Arms compensator on my AR pistol, and I would get 5 foot diameter fireballs with whatever I used. Blinding white and huge. And a concussion that would loosen your fillings. It was, quite literally, a blast. I switched to a Smith Vortex, and I now have no muzzle flash, and only normal firing noise. It is kind of a let down, as the old brake used to cause everybody at the range to stop shooting and come and see what I was playing with. But then again, my sinuses don't ache by the end of a shooting session anymore either. And being able to see the target without being blinded for a second or two by the flash is also nice.

If you want the best of both worlds, PWS markets their Triad as a flash suppressor with compensation capabilities. Haven't seen it for myself but PWS is pretty credible when it comes to their products.

Ya I watched some old videos shooting my AR with the same break and there was some muzzle flash but I was using pmc 223 and I mostly shoot xm193 and it seems to be a bit larger. I just never noticed it because it was always so bright out. It works beautifully for compensation but not for the flash.

Maybe I'll look into the triad break. Thanks again for the help guys!

10.5" AR pistol build in 5.56 here with a standard A2 birdcage has massive fireballs. I don't mind though, its more fun that way! I was thinking of getting a comp so it could be even more annoying at the range and produce even bigger fireballs. Anyone have any suggestions?

Why would you not want fireballs?
